CLINTONVILLE - The booming and shaking continues in Clintonville.
Clintonville police say they received about 65 calls Tuesday night, from people reporting three or four loud booms. Officials say the calls came in from 10:35 until 11:40 p.m.
Authorities say the reports came from the same part of the city that has been experiencing the booms for more than a week, but there were also some reports farther west, including Clinton Avenue. Several callers told police that these booms were stronger than those from last week, but no damage has been reported.
City officials have been in contact with the U.S. Geological Survey about the latest booms. City Administrator Lisa Kuss says she called them last night when the booms were reported, she says she plans to touch base with them again Wednesday morning.

What is in the neighborhood of value? Businesses? Prisons? Any minerals found years ago that someone is mining “quietly”?

Pat McManus country?
I am certain a resident FR scientist or crowd controller will be more than willing to set me straight on this, but, do we have records of anomalies that may have preceded catastrophic North American events that haven’t happened in a very long time and may happen again some day?
One of the joys of reading FR daily is clicking on threads and seeing how quickly my fellow Freepers post the obvious sarcastic/snarky comment. Which explains my puzzlement that no one yet on this thread has mentioned Monica Lewinsky. Maybe we're slipping....
Or just scared?
Well the biggest pre-quake catastrophe research has to do with the ionosphere anomalies. Japan and Haiti both had very strong signals a few days before their quakes however I know of know correlation between these type of booms and impending doom.
Has to be a 'vast right-wing conspiracy.'
The best practical joke I ever heard about was done by one of my old bosses who lived in Albuquerque. Apparently there is an extinct volcano clearly visible on the outskirts of town - he and some friends took a bunch of old tires to the volcano and set them on fire. The whole town thought it was about to blow! :)
Maybe a FR record. We posted at the exact time!
In time....give it a few more posting hours....lol
You speak the truth though.
I grew up in California, lived there for most of my life, and been through MANY earthquakes. I do not recall any booming sounds through any of them. Granted, I know that all earthquakes have different characteristics. Again, been through different types. The rolling action. The jolting, jarring action of some of them. Never any booming involved.
No one has a clue. We’re on a soft field airstrip, so we’re used to flyovers and the occasional helicopter, but nothing sounded like this. The odd thing was the utter lack of structural vibration.
I thought at first I was hearing a BNSF train off in the distance, but no train ever sounded like that.
Buy stock in fire extinguishers now...
If we get to choose, I'd rather hear the musical sounds in the sky (like those in January) than the underground booms.
The theory here from the geologists is that Clintonville sits atop a relatively shallow granite line that is under significant pressure due to these minor (1.5 richter) earthquakes which is leading to these loud booms and shaking...
Who knows...maybe its the end.
Battlefield LA
Lived between San Jose and San Fran for about 4 years and felt enough earthquakes for my lifetime. I'm a midwesterner by birth. In the biggest I felt (5.0) I was on the 5th floor of a building. There was a large bang, but several folks explained that was just the building moving....nothing to worry about.
Nothing to worry about? Sheesh!
Ahhh. Now I get it. Mother Earth is just cooking. lol
