Clearly it's his campaign manager and the staff who are the problem.
Alternate headline: “Gingrich finally approaching the fifth stage of grief.”
Its largely a strategy of necessity: The former House Speaker is a distant third in delegates, behind Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. His campaign-finance report for February, released last week, showed more debt ($1.55 million) than cash on hand ($1.54 million).
DeSantis said the former Speaker will continue to visit states with primaries, but will have a less intense campaign schedule. DeSantis promised that the campaign will be more positive and ideas-focused, eschewing attacks on Republican rivals. The aide said the campaign will be more digital, focusing on low-cost communications tools, including informational videos, social media and the web…
DeSantis elaborated on the announcement in an email: Newt 2012 is transitioning into an organization appropriate for winning a big choice convention. This big choice convention phase will be focused on two goals. 1. Affecting the national dialogue to show that Gingrich is the most capable of defeating Obama, by leading on issues that put the president on defense like Newts $2.50 Gas Plan; and 2. A parallel communications strategy directly to the delegates…
Furthermore, the fact is the more than a million more people have voted against Mitt Romney than for him. We believe that if Governor Romney is unable to secure 1144 by the last primaries, he will be unable to do so at the convention where the vast majority of the delegates are conservative. That creates and environment at the convention where Gingrich can emerge as the one candidate who can unite social, economic and national security conservatives (a fact which is borne out by polling).
Like I said in the earlier Gingrich post, that last paragraph is pure fantasy. If you’ve reached the point in a convention floor fight where, for whatever reason, both Romney and Santorum are deemed unacceptable, why wouldn’t you roll the dice on a dark horse outsider? You’re much better off with someone like Christie or Paul Ryan who’s young, appealing, superb on the seminal issue of fiscal reform, and yet to have their national image defined than you are with High-Negatives Newt. Passing over the guy with the most delegates and the guy with the second-most delegates means you’re thinking way out of the box on the nomination, which means there’s no reason to limit your choice to the people who are running. Although I guess choosing someone who hasn’t held elective office since the 90s and who can’t seem to win anywhere except his home state and the state next door would qualify as “way out of the box.” Way, way out.
I don’t know, guys. I’m starting to think maybe he really believes in this ludicrous convention idea. What other explanation is there? Exit question: Why on earth would he cite Romney’s vote total as relevant to the delegates’ calculus when Newt himself is much closer to Ron Paul’s total than to Romney’s?
More lies for Santorum.
Now THAT is disgusting.
Whatever plan Newt has for the convention, I’ll bet it includes Sarah Palin in there somehow. Y’all wanted a king maker, perhaps that is the role Newt is taking.
What’s Saintorums strategy?
“Zimmerman has a sick mind and committed a heinous crime?”
We are so screwed.
Huh? Yet we have Rick coming out and say he’d gladly be Romney’s VP. Seems to me that Rick is the one who should have gotten out if he’s going to jump on the Romney train anyway, but then he couldn’t take votes from Newt if he did that, could he?
I’ll let you in on a little secret. I couldn’t care less about some local shooting in FL. I don’t care what anyone has to say about any side of that thing. It is an MSM manufactured distraction story to divert from Obummers failures. If what Rick said upsets you so much, send a stern letter to his campaign. From what I read, Zimmerman is a Leftist Rat Obummer supporter. That alone places him in the “sick mind” category in my book.
Rick took it hook line and sinker.
Again.
I care about the here and now. Newt has been and still is the only man in the room. The longer he's around the longer the moronic public is exposed to genuine, intelligent solutions rather than the pitiful pandering we're getting from options b and c.
You seem to have Newt confused with the sainted senator.
Took what? Answering a question asked of him? I will take that any day over the BS politician answers rolling out of Milts mouth in interviews. I like that Rick answers questions and doesn’t duck them. I my not like his answer, but I know where he stands and I am sure if he is asked about something I do care about, he will tell me what he thinks.
Don’t hold your breath for any objective criticism of Rick by Team Santorum. I’m reluctant to think of what it might take to produce the slightest disapproval for the man.
“I simply do not see why people keep bringing up Chris Christie as an alternative.”
Most don’t realize he’s a Johnny One Note - talking tough to the unions but NOT particularly conservative in other areas, plus he’s pro-Muslim.
The other reason is probably the same one that makes those people bring up Jeb Bush or Mitch Daniels as other “alternatives”.
Really? All you folks always slam Rick to defend Newt, just like your BS “Sainted” remark, but have nothing to add to why your guy’s campaign is in the toilet right now. Thanks for confirming my original statement. Looking at all the Primary contests so far, it is obvious that your guy can’t run a campaign any larger than his Conservative House district in Red State GA.
Well I sure don’t like where he stands.
In this case he stands for conviction before having a hearing.
A closet totalitarian if I ever saw one.
Out of money?
What did he do with all that money that Casino owner gave him?
Buy more diamonds, cruises and private plane charters?
Time for u Newt fans to dig deeper and give more. Looks like he’s
blown through it all.
Better yet: He’s a multi-millionaire. Time to put HIS MONEY on the line.
“Yet we have Rick coming out and say hed gladly be Romneys VP. Seems to me that Rick is the one who should have gotten out if hes going to jump on the Romney train anyway, but then he couldnt take votes from Newt if he did that, could he?”
Ding Ding Ding!
Newt was on OReilly tonight and said hed use his own money if he had to, but, hes not dropping out.
Lets see how much of his own money he drops in this campaign.
My opinion, not much if any.
If Zimmerman is your big issue, then don’t vote for Rick. Romney will be listed on the ballot as well.
The only reason Rick S is still here is because he was Ignored in the early debates and still has not been vetted.
He will get creamed by the left and the right.
Rick Perry got trounced in the debates, Ricky S got ignored.
Now there are no debates since he’s been sent to the front of the line.
I would put Perrys record against Santorums any day.
