You are right, the 911 operator has no authority over Zimmerman. But that was wise advice and indeed turned out to be would you not agree? All he saw was Martin acting suspiciously, not even committing a crime. It's worth calling the cops on, but not worth getting in a confrontation over. I'll bet he agrees with me about right now. --
All the evidence is that Zimmerman agreed with that THEN. He followed the advice. He'd lost sight of Martin, and given up pursuit. And as far as I can tell, the extent of pursuit that Zimmerman was interested in maintaining was only that sufficient to maintain visual contact.

I would argue that even that was no longer necessary after he reported this guy to 911 and they dispatched cops. We don't know for sure at this point if he did continue following him at a distance. If his cell phone had gps in it, (which most modern ones do nowadays) then we'll soon find out I would think. At least the cops will if they re pursue the investigation which seems likely now.
