Correct. The particularly brutal nature of this crime and irrefutable preponderance of evidence should have made this an open and shut death penalty case. The state actually sought such an outcome. However, the defense place doubt in the juror's mind that, somehow, Dana contributed to the crime because she might have said something racial while she was getting brutally beaten by Williams.

In addition, Burton (the trigger man) showed remorse while Williams did not, so the jury was convinced it was inappropriate to give the instigator a greater penalty than the trigger man. Such is nature of political correctness in America today . . . and seven years ago.

Nine years ago today, somebody's 17 year old daughter was brutally murdered. But nobody outside our local area will even know about it and most won't even remember her name. Simply because she was the wrong color.
