I read this morning that the CNN sound engineers enhanced the quality of the tape looking for the “racist comment” but all agreed it was not there.

I heard that the tape was doctored too so I went to the
City of Sanford website for the original (call 1) and the phrase in question is there. But I don't believe anyone who claims they can discern the word in question.
