ORLANDO - A witness we haven't heard from before paints a much different picture than we've seen so far of what happened the night 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed.
The night of that shooting, police say there was a witness who saw it all.

I completely agree.
I think the lines have been drawn and many people on both sides are itching for a fight these days.
One side wants to return this country to it’s founding principles, the other wants to shed them completely and move on to top down distribution and entitlements.
We have an administration that is fanning the flames of civil unrest at every opportunity.

The damage is done. The people who are upset - are irrational. They already assume they are the “poor victims of all this evil whitey gonna shoot them in the street” - quite literally.

I think this will matter to a lot more people than you imagine.
It does matter how the physical violence started. If you start physical violence, you lose your privilege to use force in self defense.

That's correct. Putting a person in reasonable apprehension of offensive contact is enough to trigger the privilege of self defense, but mere words is no excuse for initiating physical violence.

And Zimmerman is guilty of manslaughter. If Zimmerman initiated physical violence, then he has lost the privilege of self defense.
The "who started it" play clock is reset each time the opponents break off and have an opportunity to retreat or otherwise de-escalate.

This whole media driven story is all about photos. I wonder how many folks would be marching if the family and their PR handlers had not exclusively posted the photos of a 11 year old child to manage the impression that this was the skittle toting defenseless vulnerable “child” that was shot rather than the current day photo of a 6’3” young man and high school football player flashing gangsta poses on facebook. Zimmerman may still be guilty. I do not know the facts. But when it comes to a good story, emotion rather than facts rues the day.
This story will get a lot greyer if it comes out Zimmerman without having touched the “child” after following him was walking back to the truck and Martin assaulted him. Then we are getting into the factual area of whether deadly force was warranted in the beatdown.
You might imagine yourself to be in the right following around a "suspicious looking person', but what if he's just an innocent person, or a chil', and you end up engaged in something ~ you might find yourself on the wrong side of the law real quick.
That kind of thing can just ruin your life.
That's pretty much what we have here it looks like.
Makes this much more like that event in Wisconsin several years back where the Hmong guy claimed "they were hunting me', and it turned out that his self-defense claim turned to poop when they found he'd been shooting unarmed women as well.
Took a bit of time for all the news to get out on that. Then, even at trial, new stuff came up.
