Any number of lynchings greater than zero during that period is still a very significant number.
While true, why doesn’t Lewis discuss, say, the number of black on white murders 1970-present vs. the number of white on black? Or the overall murder rate discrepancy black:white by perp’s race, which runs on the order of 6:1 to 7:1?
Let there be no misunderstanding,I was in no way excusing or defending the 156 lynchings that occurred. As a former Atlantan who has first hand experience with Lewis, I was just pointing out that Lewis, as he so often does, paints a different and more inflammatory picture than the real one.
There is a reason other than Lewis’s normally ignorant historical epistomology that accounts for his use of the description of thousands rather than dozens of seemingly lynched blacks. The implications of THOUSANDS of lynched blacks rather than dozens is more inflammatory, particularly when you wish to agitate a mob.
We need to oppose such careless demagogery with fact whenever and wherever we can, lest it become common knowledge and conventional wisdom. Too many other unchallenged premises by the left have become ingrained; i.e. that conservatives are nazis and facists when the truth is that their beliefs are more akin to those shared ly the left.
