It is very IMPORTANT that it implicitly includes not following unlawful orders. That was the Nuremberg Defense - I vass only following ordersss. It’s invalid. If a serviceman follows an unlawful order he is just as guilty (more!) than the one that gave him the order. The only possible defense is not knowing the order was illegal, and I’d bet dollars to donuts they’d say that ignorance of the UCMJ is no excuse.

He said US troops that burned queerans should not face charges in foreign courts and that he would not disarm american citizens exercising their constitutional right to bear arms.

Also, his enlistment is about up and they mostly want him to shut up and get out. If he continues to disobey he’ll get demoted to Lance Corporal and probably get a DD, though it doesn’t say so in the arcticle.

I kept a CYA file when I was in the Air Force.

I always followed lawful orders ["go to the supply squadron and get office materials"], but would absolutely refuse to follow what were clearly illegal orders ["kill my wife"].

Then, there was the "gray area":

One time, I was working Mid Shift and my commander called me up and told me to go to his office, retrieve classified material from on top of his desk, and put it in the safe at my duty station.

The regs called for me to notify the Security Squadron. I told my commander that I would go to his house and that I wanted a signed statement ordering me to do what he wanted. This was for my CYA file.

He did so, I picked up the statemnt, then I retrieved the classified material and put it in the safe.

Then, I notified the Security Squadron [he had not planned on me doing so]. So, I both followed a lawful order of my commander - and I satisfied the security requirement.

My commander was brought up on charges for violating security and cashiered out of the Air Force [he was a d*ck anyway]. I was not brought up on charges and was personally given a commendation from the Secretary of the Air Force - for having followed a lawful order and preserving security at the same time ...
