Rick Santorum Pledges To 'Pull Up Government By The Roots'
By John Hoeffel March 20, 2012
Rick Santorum, after finishing far behind Mitt Romney in Illinois, turned his focus Tuesday night to winning his home state of Pennsylvania, which votes in five weeks, styling himself as the only trustworthy conservative and delivering a populist appeal aimed at blue-collar voters.
After mentioning that he had called Romney to congratulate him, Santorum took aim at the front-runner in his election night speech, implying that he was too wealthy and not tough enough to take on President Obama.
We dont need a manager, Santorum said, a reference to Romneys experience as a businessman. We need someone who is going to pull up government by the roots and throw it out and do something to liberate the private sector in America.
Santorum was not in the Land of Lincoln, but in Pennsylvania, the state he grew up in and represented in the U.S. House and Senate until he was trounced in 2006. He did hold his party at the Gettysburg Hotel, however, which is at 1 Lincoln Square.
Speaking under an enormous banner that said, Freedom, Santorum stressed his childhood growing up among working-class people, drawing an implicit contrast with Romney, whose father was the head of American Motors and the governor of Michigan. Romney became extraordinarily wealthy as the head of a private equity fund.
Its great to have Wall Street experience. I dont have Wall Street experience, Santorum said. But I have experience growing up in a small town in western Pennsylvania, growing up in a steel town, growing up in public housing and apartments, and seeing how men and women of this country scraped and clawed because they had the opportunity to climb the ladder of success in America.

>> Which would you rather have?
The truth.
I disagree with your flawed premise and disregard it. Rick is not the Big Govt guy you claim he is. Second, Newts performance is everything in this equation. You are now either with Rick or Romney. Rick is the only one left to have a chance to take out Romney now.
>> You are now either with Rick or Romney.
That’s the kind of ultimatum I would expect from Team Santorum.
Sorry, Lazlo, you’re not making my decisions.
How the hell does he plan to accomplish this? He’s a big government Conservative. He’s not afraid to call himself that.
I don’t know if you saw this, but there are only two people who can be placed into nomination right now.
Rule #40 from the GOP Convention Rules.
http://www.gop.com/images/legal/2008_RULES_Adopted.pdf
Page 38
(b) Each candidate for nomination for
President of the United States and Vice President of the
United States shall demonstrate the support of a
plurality of the delegates from each of five (5) or more
states, severally, prior to the presentation of the name of
that candidate for nomination.
If the person isn’t in nomination, they are not a choice you have. Rick and Milt have the 5 state pluralities already. It is close to impossible to see where Newt makes up the 3 states needed to qualify. In other words, your choice has been made for you.
Is the brokered convention off the table?
From my reading of the rules, there can only be a brokered convention between the people that are in nomination, if it comes to that. They will be the only ones as well with the number of delegates to fight it out, much like Reagan Ford in ‘76.
Well I’m sure you’re familiar with the threats of Jeb Bush taking the convention. I don’t know what to believe.
I’m with Santorum. Should Romney win then I am voting 3rd party. Santorum will win Pennsylvania but we’ll see if he can win Louisiana. I think he can. Santorum is the only candidate left. Not backing Ron Paul or Mitt Romney. Gingrich is a long shot, but if he won I could live with it. When He won South Carolina and it seemed he was the front runner, I was backing Gingrich. But Santorum is my last guy left.
I get why Gingrich fell down the polls. He had a history himself that was murky. But Romney is the worst. I support anybody that wants Romney to lose.
Believe in your tag line, and keep on believing in it.
Can you map out how that scenario is going to happen? I must be missing something here.
Actually, I’d rather only share it with like-minded dreamers and realists, who know what it means to stand fast in faith and hope, and never waver. I’ll let you know when it happens though... promise.
I’ll take it from that then you have nothing.
No, I said what I meant. I usually do that. Don’t you?
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength
they shall mount up with wings as eagles
This isn’t even a good ‘red meat’ phrase since the substance of it is ludicrous.
If Santorum keeps on with loony soundbites, {eg, “I don’t care about unemployment”) he’ll simply push himself to the margins of American politics.
