Way too close the the First Daughter though. I hope they can get out if needed.

Mexico City is dangerous in a quake because so much of it is built on lakebed fill, which tends to liquify in an earthquake.

Have no idea about the geology of the area where Malia is staying.

Has been dropped to a 7.6 now.

Yes Oaxaca is close by. The most distressing thing about the First Daughter story is that I am sure the Secret Service strongly advised against the trip. Malia probably pouted and Michelle told them to do it even if it put a big target on those agents and her classmates. I would not want to be in a third world country like Mexico for during a big earthquake like this.

They need to break the first daughter out now. Way to much shyte will be happening anywhere near the epicenter.

Lord protect her and her bodyguards as well as the people of Mexico.

Reports so far indicate some strong in Oxaca (smallest circle of yellow, see scale), but nothing in the orange or red range:
