Actually, I’d be inclined to give the soldier the benefit of the doubt and consider him innocent until proven guilty.
I’ve listened to those rights read to troops and they really do say “anything you say can AND WILL be used AGAINST you.”
So, I would also lawyer up right away. I would NEVER talk to CID. Ever. Or write or sign any statement. I would never advise any soldier to do so.

The question is whether a soldier who is in the midst of suffering “adult onset psychosis” (your term) would be able to act in such a logical manner. That dog don’t hunt with this guy.
Having John Henry Browne as his attorney will assure that this case is going to take a long time to prosecute; and no one should underestimate Browne’s skills as an advocate.
Just look at all the crimes committed by the Barefoot Bandit and he only got 6 1/2 years.
