WASHINGTONRepublican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum says the United States should either commit to winning the war in Afghanistan or "get out."
Santorum tells ABC's "This Week" that he agrees with rival Newt Gingrich that a commitment to "winning" means recognizing the U.S. will stay in Afghanistan "to finish the job."

Newt is right, and should be our Presidential candidate with Santorum as VP until he learns the job.
Santorum has also co-opted Newt’s term for Romney, “Massachusetts Moderate.”
How do you finish there? You can’t nation build with 7th century islamic savages.
I will NEVER forgive Vesty for calling Staff Sergeant Bales a madman BEFORE he had all the facts!
And Santorum called on Obama to apologize! do they apologize to us for murdering our soldiers? NO!
GTFO of Afghanistan!
Ok. I will bite. Newt is our nominee. Now what states will he win? He has SC and GA so far and that is about 19 electoral college. He needs 270 to win. How does he do this? That is a question nobody every answers.
Right - should have never done any more in Afghanistan than to bomb the Taliban camps and get the hell out. Nothing more was or would be possible there. Bush blew it, and Obama continues the insanity. We are NEVER told the truth any more - I mean, the Whole Truth and nothing but the TRUTH so help us God.
You know, when Barry Goldwater made this same argument about Viet Nam in 1964 LBJ and the media painted him as a crazy war monger. They ran the infamous “daisy” commercial and countered Goldwater’s slogan of “In your heart, you know he’s right” with “In your guts, you know he’s nuts!”
Everything old is new again.
NRO: “Worse Than A Powder Keg” .............”This was the chaos into which Secretary Panetta descended. After dodging the assassination attempt, he was to address American forces and their Afghan trainees in a tent where the only security would be the United States Marines. Yet the Marines were ordered to disarm before entering. From on high came the directive: They were to check their automatic rifles and pistols outside the tent. Only then would Panetta appear.
It is hard to decide which explanation for this is more infuriating. There is the one the Marines were given: Since it would have been insane to allow Afghan soldiers, whose treachery is notorious, to be armed, the always faithful Marines had to be disarmed in order to show that our government considers them no better than their Afghan partners. The Marines would know this rationale is fraudulent: It is entirely ordinary for them to remain armed, and for Afghans not to be armed in the first place, during a visit from the secretary of defense to a combat theater.
Hence the explanation the Marines were tacitly left to ponder: As shameful Afghan officials castigated the American troops on whom they depend, and the Taliban hurled charges of genocide, American commanders taking their cues from the apologizer-in-chief disarmed the Marines to show that we take such bloviating seriously.
While Panetta addressed our defrocked troops, the savages were up to their usual grisly business. Tim Lynch, a retired Marine now embedded in Afghanistan, summed it up well in an e-mail to journalist Michael Yon: The Taliban killed 13 women and children today with an IED in Uruzgan and I think they got 8 yesterday but thats all cool here because theyre the Taliban and were the big, fat, retarded kid on the block who gets bullied everyday but still shows up to fork over even more lunch money while assuming at some point everyone will like us because were so [deleted] generous. ..............

I didn’t say he could win.
What I am saying is that he is the only one with the brains and training to save America.
No: I am pretty sure we will get a loser, in fatc I would bet Romney will be the Candidate, He will be a token President run by the RINO leadership.
I will vote for Newt because in my ind he is capable and the others aren’t. That’s the best I can do. I cannot convince enough others of this for him to win. They want a “Moderate” not a Conservative, and they will probably get a liberal posing as moderate-—Romney.
Translation: I have no idea what to do, but I need to look tough on TV.
Newt is the man.
Unfortunately too many do not agree.
Depressing but accurate post.
Romney: Obama has failed in Afghanistan WASHINGTON Mitt Romney says President Barack Obama has failed in Afghanistan.
The Republican presidential hopeful told "Fox News Sunday" that the president is partly to blame for the chaos there and should have been "more engaged" with military commanders and Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
[SNIP]
Romney said any U.S. withdrawal should be determined by military commanders. At the same time, he said, Afghans should be taking more responsibility for security because "we're not going to stay there forever."
One week ago on Fox News Sunday:
....”In some of his strongest language about the role of the U.S. in Afghanistan, Mr. Gingrich said on Fox News Sunday he had reached the conclusion frankly about the entire region that is much more pessimistic than Washingtons official position.
I think were risking the lives of young men and women in a mission that frankly may not be doable, he said.”
Sounds like time to bug out to me. Let that dump rot.
CW, funny how these candidates want Newt to withdraw.
If he did, how would they know what to say?
“Hence the explanation the Marines were tacitly left to ponder: As shameful Afghan officials castigated the American troops on whom they depend, and the Taliban hurled charges of genocide, American commanders taking their cues from the apologizer-in-chief disarmed the Marines to show that we take such bloviating seriously.”
Or.....has the administration begun to worry about its own military....afraid that one of them might take a shot at Secretary Panetta? That was my first reaction to diarming them. Have things degraded that far? Are officials now starting to fear our own troops? I find that alarming.
