Agreed. It's long past due for the "individual states" to with-hold tax receipts to the fedgov. Think 10th Amendment. Let the fedgov such wind.

Great idea. This story is actually quite significant. It's a clear indication that we're under a Hugo Chavez-style 'pay to play' dictatorship where bribes, blackmail, extortion and government-sponsored racketeering is the order of the day. Tension between States such as Texas and our insurgent government is increasing. We all know where this leads, historically.
Yee haw! I'd get a renewed respect for Texas if they did exactly that.
Somewhere I read that they had the right to divide into up to five states as part of their agreement for admission into the union. Is that still true? We could sure use another eight conservative senators.

That would not be practical nor legal. And it would bring up very complex issues as to the consequences of failing to fund individual SS accounts. Those are direct-remitted to the IRS anyway, and the one thing that will cause the Feds to swoop in and chain a businesses’ doors shut is a failure to pay & remit payroll taxes.
Now, the portion of highway funds payable to the Feds collected via gasoline sales...that, I suspect would be a different story.
And then use the funds to pay for legal fees when the dictator in chief tries to sue them for exercising their sovereign rights under the Constitution.
At least we get another chance to point out that when the Federal gubmint "gives" you anything, they think they own you. And here I thought it was illegal to buy slaves...
That is right. States need to ban Federal tax withholding so that they can appropriate tax money themselves. Let the showdown begin.
