PALATINE, Ill.--Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on late Wednesday expressed frustration with both the news media and the Republican establishment for failing to understand his large ideas for transforming American politics.
As calls for Gingrich to bow out of the race grew louder after his second-place finishes in Mississippi and Alabama--two states he said he had a chance to win--the candidate seemed to be in low spirits and offered a grumpy analysis of the state of the GOP primary to a crowd that gathered for a Lincoln Day dinner in this northwestern suburb of Chicago.
The thing I find most disheartening of this campaign is the difficulty of talking about large ideas on a large scale, because the news media cant cover it and, candidly, my opponents cant comprehend it, Gingrich said, while also vowing to continue his campaign to the convention in Tampa this summer.
He called himself the only candidate of the four still in the contest focused on ideas and solutions and not just the usual politics, and the only one advocating wholesale change to a political system that is methodically and deliberately stupid.
Other parts of his speech covered topics ranging from President Lincoln promoting the transcontinental railroad to the antifraud system of the American Express company. Gingrich spoke of the need for a technological revolution in government, but he lamented that no one but him seemed to understand that.
Let me just talk for a second about technology and grand opportunities, he said. Other than Ronald Reagan, I know of no Republican in my lifetime whos been able to talk about this. Thats why Im still running. The former House speaker from Georgia has recently focused his campaign on high gas prices, promising as president to restore them to no more than $2.50 a gallon. But he often also speaks at length on a wide range of topics, covering everything from brain science to space exploration to the need to utilize modern management practices to reform entire sectors of the government.
I want to be the candidate of science and technology, he said. Whether its on energy, its on stopping crooks in Medicare and Medicaid, its on getting into space, which I was ridiculed [for], or it is on helping you make sure that your family doesnt suffer from something that could be avoided.
And he chided fellow Republicans for failing to see the need for a party makeover. The GOP, he said, has been governing like the Democratic Party since 2006, when it lost control of the Congress.
We cannot be a normal party, he told the suburban Republican crowd. If we run a normal campaign, trying to govern within the framework of the current system, we have no future, because people would rather have Democrats do it. They at least enjoy it.
I can only agree with him if he was talking about the Democrats.
“Newt Gingrich: No One Understands Me”
I understand you, Newt. Keep up the good work.
Don’t let the turkeys get you down. Keep soaring with the eagles.
Guess again. He was talking about Rick and Mitt, and to some extent Ron Paul. NO, they don’t get it. Maybe you don’t either. I don’t know.
Big problems require big solutions.
YOU’RE CORRECT.
This primary is all about stopping Newt by shutting out Newt, and Rush did that today
He went on about Obama and oil for the first hour and only mentioned that Obama was answering Newt Gingrich, but added that Newt won’t win the nomination!
Well, how about that? What if Rush had said, “Vote Newt the rest of the way?”
RE: does anyone have the Kim Jong Il from Team America Im So Ronrey?

You know, the guy he denounced for right wing social engineering. Is there any possibility of that happening?
But let's get real. It is a two man race now. The blue guy is not going to step aside to help the red guy.
I am not saying the red guy has to get out an endorse the blue guy. That's up to him. He is welcome to stay in as long as he wants for whatever reasons he wants. Unless, of course, those reasons are scorched earth to pave the way for an easy ObaMao re-election and get back at the rest of us for not bowing to his infinite wisdom.
It was a great speech. He gave the GOP-e insiders and operatives a grown up talk. Yes, change the GOP/the democratic party and the GOP party is the same Now. I admire him every day. Newt wants big solutions for Change. Newt is right. We cannot keep the normal party, the party we have now operating AS it is. Duh. What kind of people cannot get that message. No wonder we cannot move to a direction of change.
Newt is also correct about the media deliberately keeping his ideas out of the news. Why? Because he is the only one who has great ideas with problem solving answers.
It looks like the part of the common folk maybe settling or leaning for ABO and he’s trying to cut through that filter. People are lazy-minded- (and not very smart-they might become intimated by Newt who is smart so..what do they do-make silly jokes or make that person seem irrelevant. Kinda like the media, too..
Look at these voters who are fighting for change-do you think they will make the right decision so we can get change? Mitt (Romneycare change) Ricky ( preacher-man/another Bush change) Newt (visionary change)
Newt is right, as always. The media leads them. He is has a right to be worried about our country going off a cliff. Many of us believe in his ideas which will keep America as the way we love her not this same definition of America. I want change, nothing in this world would make me vote for Romney. If you vote for Romney, you, in my eyes, are not a liberty loving person. Take your Romney slogan- if he is the one, I will vote for and shove it ( watching Tv with the love of Mitt is too much anymore) Keep fighting, Mr. Speaker and win your delegates-onto Tampa. Some of us know it will take a hell of a fighter to have any chance for change in this Huge corrupt system that we have now. ( Go onward)
Go, Newt.
To be sure, Rush has been a gigantic disappointment in that regard. He was behind Newt early on, and for some bizarre reason began pimping Little Saint Ricky. I doesn’t make any sense.
It is certain that the establishment types make out well with either Mittens or Little Saint Ricky, as the D.C. gravy train will keep on rolling under their watch. The only credible threat to that continued money fountain is Newt.
Oh, well...
-—> correction-—love her not this NEW definition of America...
Newt knows about big solutions. He cheated on two wives and married the last one. As far as we know, yet, no other bimbos will show up on cue.
I am sure if we fail to see the brilliance of Newt, he will remind us, over...and over....and over. Newt says there is only one person smarter than me and that would still be me, Newt. Yuk yuk
Nobody understands Whaaaa, wanna debate......?
Yep. Can’t upset the Beltway gravy train which only Newt Gingrich can and will do.
Rush showed himself a status-quo Republican, not anything else.
I quit listening to him, but my husband hasn’t, so when he told me today that Rush was talking oil right out of Newt’s playbook, and would certaintly mention or give Newt credit, I went into the kitchen to listen. Huge disappointment.
I even tried to call several times. No luck in getting through and I was prepared to read him the riot act. I might try again tomorrow.
No Romney and Santorum are afraid to.
Newt knows about big solutions. He cheated on two wives and married the last one.
I'll give Santorum credit for big solutions. He's a Big Government Conservative.
And you might not want to get into a discussions about candidates wives without doing a little research.
What I get is that it was a rather insulting thing to say. I would not be saying that about fellow Republicans. That’s how you lose support which you badly need.
Good Lord. I didn't listen to Rush today. I had No idea that he had said this. Shameful and can't see why people don't see that Rush is always for the establishment candidate. Always. His listeners have made him so big though he is One that is Never for change-he just uses the idea of change Washington- to gain listeners because when it gets to the petal to the metal, he always swings back for the establishment. As he did with HW and GW Bush as they were spending money going of style. I guess he is telling us to accept Romney No way that I will vote for Saint Rick either. What a shameful man he is Imo.
Just last week Romney said that he believed Global Warming was happening. That guy is really clueless.
operative Santorum against Newt-non stop-day after day. Give it a rest. You insult everyone that happens to have a different thought than you. Some of the Santorum supporters are the worse that I have ever seen on a forum. Name calling-telling people that are stupid, telling Newt supporters they have a half brain, calling them idiotic, as well on and on. ( look at the posts)
Romney’s pending sellout on global warming.

I think Newt has the biggest insecurity complex I have ever seen. He hates being made fun of like Romney did to him in Florida and now the press is asking him to leave. I think it reminds him of sixth grade when he was made fun of for being a geek. I guarantee he was not anywhere near the cool kid in class. I feel very sorry for him but he does not do well when things are negative. He cannot be trusted with the nuclear codes. Good Lord. One day of really bad press and he might just launch something.
