1. If people want to lose themselves in the 35% of the country that never votes, who cares?

2. Some people think elections are all about them. They aren’t. Elections in America are about leaning the country left or right.

3. Some will rest on religious principle. I have no problem with that. Don’t vote, or vote your religious principles.

4. Romney is near the bottom of the R pile as far as I’m concerned. But if you think I’m going to pass up my last chance to vote against Obama, you are mistaken.

I think there is tension between your second and your fourth point. Precisely because Romney is part of the R pile, he has the potential to destroy the Republicans in the way that Obama does not. Having two parties pulling left is worse for America than having one party pulling left and the other pulling right, even if the pulling right is only a contrarian reflex. Romney will pull us left much faster than Obama because he will take the bulk of the GOP with him, and America will be left with no one in the short term to oppose the leftist agenda short of building up a third party—which isn’t realistic, and in the long term, it will become much harder both to re-take the GOP and have the GOP seen as a non-leftist institution. I’ll vote against Obama, but not by voting for Romney. If I’m voting for a Mass. governor, it will be Coolidge.
