What unmitigated bullshit. Just lost all the little bit of respect I had for this political animal.

I knew a guy who fought in WW II in the South Pacific.
They were all disarmed an hour before MacArthur mysteriously showed up.
To: jagusafr
I thought that was SOP in these situations.

If I were meeting with US forces in Afghanistan, I would order them to bring their weapons with them.

Thanks Panetta for admitting that you are an enemy of the troops. A group fart in his direction would be in order.

I guess Leon feels generally safe with his own military and generally proud of their combat performance

Dougout Doug (that's what he was called)--a legend in his own mind. On the other hand, he was pretty smart. The Inchon landing caught the NK/Chinese by surprise.
Eisenhower couldn't stand him.

Its SOP. Noone gets near a Cabinet officer with a weapon
without the required clearance. No need to foam at the mouth over this.
To: OldCorps
Never heard of Patton having his troops disarmed.
Reminds me of Chicago police not being allowed to have guns off-duty.
