The Republic would be better served if only tax payers and veterans were enfranchised, regardless of gender.

Unfortunately, there is no way to put the universal suffrage horses back in the barn.

We are doomed.

"Democracies have been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death." James Madison

Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. John Adams: letter to John Taylor, April 15, 1814

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.:Thomas Jefferson

I posted the following a few days ago..it fits this thread.

There should be requirements to be allowed to vote.

A landowner (land valued at least 25% of the average)
or
A military veteran

No person who receives public assistance should be allowed to vote. That eventually leads to bums voting for bigger handouts.

To be president you should be required to have served in the military.

The idea that someone could rise to commander in chief and not be a veteran is repugnant to me!

I certainly agree with you on veterans and property owners/taxpayers. The founders were big on property ownership as a measure of skin in the game. If voting were limited to the Makers rather than the Takers, elections would turn out very differently and BHO wouldn’t be in power.
