Gingrich Is in No Hurry to Bow Out [Gingrich has "grand ambitions"]

March 13, 2012 Gingrich Is in No Hurry to Bow Out Even After Falling Short of Double Wins in Deep South, Former Speaker Still Sees a Way to Push Fight to the Convention

By JANET HOOK and DANNY YADRON

BILOXI, Miss.—Even as pressure mounts on Newt Gingrich to drop out of the Republican presidential contest, the former House speaker is preparing to stick it out—with a new short-term goal of keeping Mitt Romney from securing the nomination.

Mr. Gingrich faced crucial primary tests Tuesday in Alabama and Mississippi, states where he campaigned hard to jump-start his flagging campaign. He lost both to former Sen. Rick Santorum, though he appeared on track to finish a respectable second in both. Even if he had realized his dream of winning both, though, some Republican officials doubt that would have generated enough momentum to win the nomination.

Still, Mr. Gingrich and his advisers say he isn't going anywhere. In a concession speech, Mr. Gingrich was gracious to Mr. Santorum, while calling the results an indictment of Mr. Romney, widely seen as the front-runner. "I believe that after the primaries are over it will be obvious the so-called front-runner in fact didn't get there, and from that point we will be in a whole different conversation," Mr. Gingrich said.

As those remarks suggest, Mr. Gingrich and his campaign have embraced a new goal, which is to block Mr. Romney. "He believes the long haul is to get enough delegates to stop Romney from getting the nomination before the convention," said campaign chairman Bob Walker, a former congressman. "If Romney is stopped, I don't think he gets the nomination at the convention."

Obama will destroy Santorum

I'm not so sure.

We have to win all the McLame states from 08. (easy I think - Santorum is way more appealing than McLame)

Flip Indiana (I've got that covered - it's a lock with very popular Mike Pence on the ticket for Gov).

Then comes flipping Ohio and Florida (definite maybe)

and then either Penn or NC + VA. (Ok those are tough)

It will be a very close finish, no way Baraq "destroys" any Republican.

Romney reminds me very much of George Sores.....he’s nothing without the purse he welds....and unfortunately money will talk to some.....this is a pay to play fight for romney...he hasn’t anything else to stand on. Very similar to Obama....they have nothing apart from attacking others.

This is a MOVEMENT and it IS going forward and we DO have a strong leader. Newt describes himself as Aesop’s tortoise, with rabbits running all around.....He’s in this race to the finish, thank goodness.

Indeed so.....I love that Newt understands this is political and the religious aspect needs to be centered on the Country as the founders established it..."One Nation UNDER GOD!.....Newt wants to give the Glory back to God and our country....not to himself as Santorum consistantly bellows...we don't need another Pope.

I'm on record here at being aghast when those Evangelical pastors didn't endorse Governor Perry over the two Catholics in the race: Santorum and Gingrich. Governor Perry was the very obvious choice and he sure needed their endorsement at that time. IIRC, they even convened in Texas, for crying out loud.

This primary has been one huge mess and the blame goes straight to Romney beginning in Iowa, when he couldn't stand Newt Gingrich's purely positive campaign.

I also think he was responsible for a lot of the dirty shenanigans pulled on Governor Rick Perry and Herman Cain, but how to prove it? I think the fact that both of those men support Newt is proof enough.

Precisely. Even George Soros said there’s little difference between Romney and Obama....better food with Romney.

Well, you’ve caught me here this morning without my reading glasses....LOL.

I have misplaced them again.

I should spend another $19.95 at Walgreen’s for a second set or pair.

I fully concur.

Can’t recall the FReeper name or I would ping, but last night one of them said you could sum up why Santorum surged in two words...James Dobson.

Now you can take that literally, or you can take that as a metaphor for the whole situation.

I’m with CAWW. Religion is hugely important in America and was to our Founders and founding documents. That’s the perspective we need, rather than people being singled out as being more “chosen by God”, as an individual, to run for office.

In a word, NEWT!

Dobson = true believer forever!
Exactly right.

You and caww have it right about Newt and you both write superbly. He fully understands our Constitution and religion’s rightful place, but he also understands and articulates, “Our Creator”, “God,” which is of course, separate from “religion” that he doesn’t wear on his sleeve.

I think the fact that both of those men support Newt is proof enough.

Yes! Maybe, just maybe, the race will be extended long enough to expose the dirty rotten scoundrels.

If - big IF - people care enough.

That some religious leaders have “chosen” Santorum and ignored or rejected both Governor Perry and Speaker Gingrich has given cover to those who tout religion as the be all and end all of politics..............It isn’t, nor should it be, nor can it be successful in the broader society. Newt gets it, because he understands history and philosophy and the Founders and the Constitution............It isn’t about singling out a “holier than thou” individual

They did the same thing with Carter and we know how that turned out.....and make no mistake some of the worst offenders and opposition to Christianity are not those without the community but from within.

You are correct..Newt gets it and gets it very well....people want to hear about the greatness of our country because we need to hear that....too many have forgotten and or ignored the mighty hand of God in bringing our nation about.

It's ok to admire the fortitude and determination of our founders, and I do...but they never came across with the self-righteousness on display from Santorum.... and as we have recently noted...Santorum has begun using Newts bites to position himself...he's so unauthentic though he clamors that he is!

Newt seems to remember who the enemy is, ALL the time.

Newt stayting in for now, is Rick’s best hope to win the nomination. Otherwise he will be decimated by the Romney/Rove attack machine.Rick’s number of hard delegates is half that of Romney right now.

Newt has run interference up to now, and taken a lot of blows which would have been directed solely toward Rick.

Of the four candidates, only Newt can take on the Obama/MSM machine.Rick and Romney will get chewed up like a log through a wood chipper. And if you think Newt has baggage, Romney and Rick have their fair share also, and all of mti will be exploited, as well as amde up controversies.

Only Newt keeps Obama’s weaknesses in the spotlight consistently and effectively, even through the 20 debates.

But this FReeper was FOR Santorum, and it certainly wasn’t true believer forever!

He was bragging that that is all it took to send Santorum into orbit.

I took issue and reminded that Romney took Newt out with massive attack ads and that Santorum walked into the breach to become the leading not Romney as Newt was severely wounded.

The rest after that certainly played its part, no denying.

But to say it was two words, James Dobson, is to ignore recent history that we all lived through.

Did Santorum beat Gingrich in Mississippi due to Democrat Prank Voting? Alabama?

http://gulagbound.com/27470/did-santorum-beat-gingrich-in-mississippi-due-to-the-democrat-prank-vote-alabama/

The elections are rigged. The democrats are voting for the weakest republican candidate, so Obama can beat him easily. Shame on the incompetent RNC.

"CNN’s John King last evening pointed out there according to their exit polling, about six to eight percent of Alabama voters called themselves Democrats." Enough to rig the results. Santorum’s final edge over Gingrich was less than two percent in Mississippi and five percent in Alabama. Theoretically, both of these tallies could be within the margin of democrats voting for Santorum.

Romney in the Whitehouse = No significant change
Santorum in the Whitehouse = No significant change
Gingrich in the Whitehouse = A chance for significant change

I agree and I will go so far as to say the Mormon machine that's out there has done a good amount of damage to Newt....not just the Romney campaign. They are everywhere in places of leverage and using it though we'll never see it as they are masters at hiding what and where they operate. Let me explain a little further.....

You see I don't see Romneys religion as a religion...it operates and functions as a huge conglomerate of corporations and investments in land, real estate ventures and political posturing of people within their organization for political advantages....... Both nationally and Internationally, they have huge influence politically and can and will strong arm those who oppose them........ I investigated this and it's more than astounding the wealth this organization has...and how they use it politically.

Further laying claim to a religious title exempts Romney from answering questions concerning this organizations involvement not only in his election, but in the political arena of which they operate nationally and Internationally. We note he shuts down any reference to his "religion" which is a great coverup and works to the uninformed about his organization. So they are actively working behind the scenes for Romney and opposing Newt mightily.

“My grandmother went into the same poll about an hour later. I had shown her this video so she knew not to go to the Diebold voting machine on the left, but to use the one on the right instead. She filled out her ballot and exactly the same thing happened to her. She was told the votes would be put away and counted later. Another lady standing near my grandmother also yelled out “This vote is rigged!” when her ballot was also rejected, to be counted in secret later. Before I walked up to vote, I watched 2 people have their votes counted without issue. This was at Murphy High School in Mobile, AL.”
