I loved the John Carter series, but I was a bit disappointed when they cast a man-child type in the Carter role. Should be a craggy, get-things-done kid of actor. So, I probably won’t go see the movie. Having read the books, I realize I am in the minority, but still, there was a reason the books were popular.

Never read them as a kid, but recently started and am enjoying them. I don’t see why Hollywood would want to use John Carter. He is a man who puruses liberty and accepts responsiblity for his actions. Totally foreign concepts in today’s America, especially in wussified Hollywood.
A Harrison Ford Raiders type actor might have worked for the role.
If they wanted to go more serious, someone like Russell Crowe who has done a great job with period pieces but he is too old.
Taylor Kitsch is 30 years old. He did a pretty good job with Remy in Wolverine. His dialogue in the previews is painful to watch. Kind of like Keanu Reeves as Harker in Dracula.

I went and saw the 2D version last night. I knew I had to go see it after the critics panned it.
The first bit on earth I was not impressed with. But man it picked up right after he woke up on Mars.
If you’re a fan of the books then you know they condensed the first three books into the Movie - Princess, Gods and Warlord of Mars.
If you’re not too picky about that you’ll see they did a pretty good job.
I’ll give it a thumbs up as a popcorn cruncher and will purchase the DVD when it comes out.
