It was not ABOUT shopping at Walmart versus another store, it was about (the whole crowd) shopping at Walmart for the afternoon versus doing another local ACTVITY. HE sounds like he thinks that's all there is to do in saying what he said, even though it may not be the case that it's what he thinks. And given that Calista outwardly prefers high-end stores (much moreso than the other candidates' wives,) I just think it may have hurt him more than it helped him.
OH, and I shop at Walmart TOO...all the time, Cindy, so don't go snobby on me thank you.
And that's all I'm going to say on the subject, so I'll just let that stand.
I just texted a friend of mine in AL with the campaign, and told her there was this international incident discussion going on about Newt’s walmart remark, and she said there is a wal-mart straight down the highway from where newt was speaking, you don’t even make a single turn. Depending how you get there, highway or backstreets, it’s just a little over 2 miles away, which is the center of town activity, as many walmarts are in small towns.
I think you’re reading way too much into it. My Walmart is crowded on the weekends because most people work Monday through Friday. Feels like half the town is there sometimes. What would have been better...looks like everyone isn’t at the movies, museum, mall, bowling, at home, etc. Shopping at Walmart is relatable to everyone, especially in places where that’s really the only (or best) places to shop. The people at FR who actually live in the area didn’t think it was condescending.

In my experience, women are the ones who want the expensive clothes and jewelry. Men, even those with money, don't care nearly as much about that sort of thing. So I wouldn't judge Newt by Calista's tastes. Maybe she does lust after Tiffany items, and maybe he's glad to buy them for her, but it doesn't mean his tastes are the same.
I'm a Newt supporter, and I shop at our Walmart stores all the time. I'm not offended by what he said.
