This 1962 Gerry Goffin and Carole King song gave saloon singer Steve Lawrence a Number One hit. Mitch Miller had changed his mind about the duo.

We teenagers of the time referred to it as “The Jail Bait Song”, but the song is about infidelity, not bedding an underage girl. We misinterpreted the lyrics.
