Members of Congress: This job sucks By: Jonathan Allen March 7, 2012 11:38 PM EST
For members of Congress, the thrill is gone.
They dont make national policy anymore. They cant earmark money for communities back home. The public hates them.
And perks little and big, from private jet travel to a little free nosh now and then, have been locked down by ethics rules.
As they head for the exits this year, many leaving Congress say the prestigious job of being a congressman sucks now, and thats why lawmakers young and old are trading in their member pins for a new life in the private sector.
Take Rep. Dan Boren, an Oklahoma Democrat now in his fourth term. In the old days, the moderate Blue Dog would have been a sure bet to bide his time in Congress, win reelection by serving up earmarks to his constituents and, after a couple of decades, grab the prized gavel of the Armed Services Committee.
But Borens on his way out, contemplating work in real estate or energy development back in the Sooner State retired from Congress at 39.
If you go through all the things you have to do to get elected and you feel at the end of the day, youre not pushing the ball forward, its time to go do something else, he said in a telephone interview as he ate yet another in a long string of lunches at the T.G.I. Fridays in Terminal C of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

...BS...they can still inside trade....with impunity since the MSM won’t mention it
Here’s a tissue...and don’t let the doorknob hit you in the ### on your way out.
boo-freakin’-hoo, the job is supposed to be service to the country, not being a pampered lard@ass.
Our Founding Fathers designed it to be a sucky job so that nobody would stay there more than a couple of terms.
I wished they would put a “vaction limit” on the POTUS. Mr. Obama & family spend more time vacationing on taxpayers than working.
Whether it be Congress or the Presidency. Those there should be there to “serve” not get prestige. You go and “serve” a few terms and then you go home....a citizen legislature. I believe that was the original intent of the founders of this nation.
This country is only allowed one pampered lard@$$, and she resides in public housing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
...and we think you suck at the job you do.
Sheesh sounds like spoiled children not having enough fun...
I wonder what Rep. Dan Boren, an Oklahoma Democrat now in his fourth term will be receiving for the rest of his life from Daddy Government for serving those 4 terms?
The House only has two year terms..so that is a clear message that it wasn’t meant as a career. We need more people doing it to serve their country not get influence and money.
I wouldn’t be disappointed to see the House turn over by 100% each election cycle.
We also should return to having the Senate being a job that was elected by the State Legislatures.
Please let me know what I can do to make it suck even more - maybe if we replaced the critters who are in there for their own egos with people who actually wanted to straighten the country out, we might be getting somewhere.
Yeah, the job sucks so bad that they practically kill themselves and spend millions to get a job that pays $165k/year.
Give me a break.
Corrected and more accurate Headline - “Members of Congress - The Job you have done sucks.”
Please let me know what I can do to make it suck even more

Remember, back in the days when they pretended to ‘care’ for US, a prospective raise was ‘sold’ by saying “If we don’t pay them well, no telling what will be running for office”.
“We” made it so good for them that we are getting what we paid not to get.
Kind of like the old “They said cheer up, things could be worse and I cheered up and sure enough, they got worse”.
A good start would be sticking to the ‘facts’ that it should be of no concern (money wise) for people in California ‘buying’ Reps etc from Virginia...
Limit the fund raising to those you are representing.
It is so bad now that when a Congressman is elected/reelected, he is campaigning for his next term the day he is sworn in.
“We” took part in chastising/damning/laughing at Gov Perdue (NC) over her statement to ‘suspend Congressional elections’ so they can get some work done.
If she ‘meant’ hold reelections so they don’t have to campaign every waking moment - good move -
If she ‘meant’ I am here, lets not vote anymore, then she has to go.
If congress isn’t going to keep hussein’s dictatorship in check, they might as well go home and try to find a REAL job.
Stop "pushing the ball forward" and get government out of our lives.

Welcome to the party, pal.
Bingo!
We have a winnner.
someone needs to inform them before they take the oath that the original purpose of serving in the congress is to SERVE THE COUNTRY, not thy self
###
Therein lies the problem.
For these talentless, career politician parasites it is ALL about “getting elected” and reelected.
