Had it not been for political infighting and inter-service rivalries, Bull would have, undoubtedly, been successful

Didn't a national actor in the Middle-East known for success in sanctioning external threats shoot Bull in the head..?

“The brainchild of Jerry Bull (of “Iranian Super Gun” fame)”

Actually, it was the Iraqi Super Gun. But even so, Mr. Bull is an ABSOLUTE LEGEND in the world of artillery. If we are fortunate enough to have a product of his, it makes me feel much better regarding the overall defense of this country. This many was super-human.

The cool thing about this super-gun is that there were two or three separate detonations of explosives as the projectile proceeded up the barrel.

And then, the inventor kept all of the important technical information in his head, which ultimately backfired on him.

The recent publication of the successful work done by the Naval Research Laboratory on rail gun technology indicates it is timely to consider the use of the rail gun as a timely response for the initial or replacement launch of satellites.

Won't work. The electronics can't stand the extremely high G-forces associated with gun-based launches. It's why HARP failed and Bull was unable to sell the concept to the Navy in the early 1970s.

I'm all for the technology. My hope is that Obama and the Democratic Party Left doesn't give it away to Russia, or China.
I do know that in the development there will be technology necessary to cushion the equipment from the initial tremendously high G-force exerted by the rail guns.

Wasn’t this looked at years (decades?) ago? They quickly realized the atmosphere is much too dense to shoot a satellite into orbit from land near sea level. But even at 16,000 feet altitude on the equator in the Andes Mountains, there was still no way to do it. Too much friction passing through the atmosphere, which fouled the necessarily precise trajectory, the blast required to gain orbit would be too much for a satellite to absorb and still be a functioning, piece of hardware, etc.

That’s about what I remember reading. Anyway, it’s not being done, so that pretty much means it’s not feasible.
