ATLANTA Newt Gingrich won the Georgia primary Tuesday, ending a weeks-long drought in the Republican presidential race for the former House speaker who quickly tried to capitalize by looking to upcoming Southern primaries.
Far behind in the Republican presidential delegate hunt, Gingrich campaigned in Alabama even before the polls closed in Georgia, and predicted his neighboring state would mark a third resurgence for his up-and-down campaign.
In visiting Huntsville, he also sought to get GOP voters to look beyond Super Tuesday, with Gingrich only assured one of the 10 states voting.
"For the third time, we're going to come bouncing back," Gingrich told the raucous Huntsville crowd. "With your help by the end of next week, we could really be in a totally new race."
And the former college professor, mocked by his rivals for far-flung ideas, doubled down by calling for renewed commitment to space exploration, at one of the nation's monuments to the space program.
"This is the launching pad for the next phase of excitement and invention," Gingrich said in the museum of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.
He was referring to the space program, but may as well have been referring to his up-and-down campaign.
"This is the country of the future," he told more than 300 standing in the shadow of an enormous Apollo rocket. "That's what a Gingrich campaign is all about, that we can unleash the American people and they can rebuild the country we love."
Gingrich was counting on a big win in the primary Tuesday in Georgia, part of which he represented for decades in Congress, and predicted better-than-expected finishes in Tennessee and Oklahoma in the 10-state series of super Tuesday contests.
But Gingrich was in Alabama, signaling his intention to stay in the race.

I find that so hard to believe, because, my lesbian sister inlaw and her lover, et al her lovers family all of which are GAY, live there. I went to a wedding, my husband and I were the only straight couple there. VERY STRANGE.
they all live in GA.
Oh, sorry. You said:
“As a Georgia voter, I am glad to vote against Newt.
Hes a joke. Sorry all, but it is true.”
You bash Newt quite a bit don’t you?
I will bash anyone who is a corrupt Washington insider that has zero chance of beating zero.
And whaddaya know Santorum beats Newt in TN.
Pathetic for Newtey.
Damn I though TN would have been closer than this for Newt. Winning was a long shot but I thought a competive 2nd was in the cards
Really? So, you’ll bash Newt and pretend to be a Santorum supporter to cover your arse? I get it.
I just don’t understand why he doesn’t endorse Santorum tonight.
Both he and Santorum need to stay in the race until the convention. The only way to stop Romney is to insure he goes to the convention without a majority of the delegates.
The Romney folks realize this and they will be screaming even more loudly for one or both to get out but the longer this goes the less likely it is Romney clinches before the convention...
You are only bashing Newt.
A “third-comeback” is unlikely. You cannot have a “southern strategy” by just winning your home state. Gingrich divided the conservative vote and helped Romney win a squeaker in what was a do-or-die state for him, and may have cost Santorum (who won IA and the trifecta and now has won OK and TN) a narrow loss in OH.
In short, Gingrich has been a major spoiler enabling Romney to capture the nomination. Gingrich is a good man, he needs to bow out in dignity and do so immediately. This is the reality that many don’t want to or refuse to face.
I’m not covering my “arse” for anybody. I will vote for the candidate who has the best chance of beating Obama. Pretty durn simple.
It’s not Santorunm, that’s for sure. Obama will rip him up in debates. Pretty strange that you’re on a ‘Gingrich wins Georgia’ thread if you’re so pro-Santorum.
Yep. Just look at the posting history.
“I will bash anyone who is a corrupt Washington insider that has zero chance of beating zero.”
So then why then are you backing Santorum? Sounds hypocritical to me.
I’m not backing Santorum. I hate all 3. My candidate left the race when Herman dropped out.
But Santorum is far better than Newt.
So if I don’t like your guy, I’m a bot. Real mature.

ok. I’m just posting my opinions. If they differ with yours then I must be a troll. I love the logic.
