Let me put it this way. I can get a magic marker, write E = mc² on the skin of a banana, and toss the banana to a blue-butted baboon. The baboon will peel the banana, toss the skin aside, and enjoy a snack. The famous equation written on that peel won't have any "substance" to the babboon... but that doesn't mean it is without substance.
This metaphor applies to you too, in a way. Except that the baboon probably doesn't have emotional problems and a deep-seated need to demonstrate its intelligence.
