If my daughter, no matter her age, had a condition in her reproductive organs that could hinder her from having a child in the future or loose 1 or both of her ovaries, I would do anything I possibly could to get her birth control pills if that was the remedy. I would sell whatever I had to get them. I would forgo cell phone or cable tv, even heat for my home. I would never relies on my insurance company telling me they can not fill the prescription and then NOT getting the medication.

I am not a law student or lawyer. Just a mom who loves her daughter and would not let her suffer. Now finding out birth control can be obtained for around 10 dollars per month I am even more disgusted with this argument. Frankly, if any woman and mom I know is so outraged over this over all other issues this country is facing then they indeed should vote for Obama. I don't want them on my side.

(Note: I’m not Catholic, but this woman speaks for me. This has been posted as an FR thread already).

Bingo.....Ms Fluke (rhymes with...) and her women friends she represented could afford a $50K (or whatever it is) college degree, but not $9/month for birth control at WMart - this is without any prescription drug coverage. Where does this $1,000/year come from? I’m sure their insurance covered the gyn. exam. the only thing left would be buying the BC pills.

I went through the same thing as Fluck’s “friend.” I had an ovary removed for the exact same reason. I did not go through premature menopause, and I went on to have twins. My one ovary worked fine until I got old enough to go through menopause. The “testimony” was bunk, pure and simple.

Keep in mind that both birth control pills and viagra were initially researched and developed to combat medical conditions, viagra being for the heart.

It wasn't until afterwards that they were discovered to affect fertility in women and erectile dysfunction in men.

Most insurance companies WILL pay the applicable coverage for both those drugs IF they are prescribed for the medical condition they were created for.......

As a side note, there is another drug that has proven useful for two different conditions. Wellbutrin. It was initially prescribed to help people with depression but since then it's been found to help people quit smoking by altering certain receptors in the brain.

Leeann Tweeden was on Hannity tonight. Tweeden said she didn’t know where Fluke got her numbers from because birth control pills were available at Wal Mart for 9 dollars - WITHOUT INSURANCE!
