Paul has definitely helped him, but I think Paul is too marginal to bring Romney anything if a Paul were to be put on the ticket. Paul is harvesting a lot of democrat voters that will disappear in the general. The Republican establishment has the open primaries to disable the conservative faction, but they know they are unlikely to get those votes in the general. Romney is the great moderate, they need to get the base back in.

Yes, that’s right, he won’t help them in the general. Maybe it’s not the VP slot that they made a deal about. Promising Paul Secretary of the Treasury or something of that nature probably would have been enough to explain the apparent coordination between the two camps.
