“Yeah, Newt should have stayed out of it or made it a free political speech issue—now he has thrown Rush under the bus and there are a LOT of Dittoheads in Super Tuesday states.”

He didnt throw Rush under a bus!

Rush had already apologized, and Newt said that was the right thing for him to do.

He didnt tell Rush his comments were “absurd” in some weak attempt to try to distance himself from him like that other guy running did.

In each instance Newt was asked about this, he correctly directed to issue back to Obama and the media, while Santorum slap Rush early and then ran off.

I agree that Rick's words were more harsh on the surface but Rush, with great personal loss to his much valued character, apologized out of pragmatic expediency—which involves some measure of selling out—and not from the heart because the Maha Rushie only speaks the truth. And Newt, being an over two decades long dear friend of Rush's, betrayed their personal trust by rubbing salt in the wound. And even a single grain coming from an old friend is so much more painful than even the most hateful reproaches a relative stranger like Rick Santorum could ever say.

A “not too smart” from an old friend hurts a hell of a lot more than a “you a**hole!” from an acquaintance.

Rush had already apologized, and Newt said that was the right thing for him to do.

If that was all he said it would be great, but then he went on and on and on, which is a fault Newt has, he has so many words bottled up he has to use them.
