Mitt: I misunderstood Blunt bill question

Mitt Romney moved quickly tonight to clean up the budding controversy over his interview with the Ohio News Network, in which he appeared to say he didn't support the amendment in the Senate that would overturn President Obama's contraception mandate.

In a radio interview on the Howie Carr show, Romney said he merely misunderstood the question on what the ONN reporter referred to as the "Blunt-Rubio amendment":

ROMNEY: I didn’t understand his question. Of course I support the Blunt Amendment. I thought he was talking about some state law that prevented people from getting contraception so I was simply misunderstood the question and of course I support the blunt amendment.

CARR: Okay, so that should be taken off the table. That's running around the world in 10 seconds, as you know.

ROMNEY: I simply misunderstood what he was talking about. I thought it was some Ohio legislation where employers were prevented from providing contraceptives, and so I talked about contraceptives and so forth, so I really misunderstood the question. Of course Roy Blunt, who is my liaison to the Senate, is someone I support and of course I support that amendment, I clearly want to have religious exemption from Obamacare.

So Mitt is too stupid to ask for clarification before shooting off his mouth to answer a question about something he admittedly doesn’t understand?

When that call comes at 3 A.M., let’s hope the groggy President understands that it is Russian delegates, not Russian frigates, that are on the way to the U.S.

How can I say this?

I cringed when Bush debated Gore.
I cringed when Bush debated Kerry.

I will cringe if Romney debates Obama.
I will cringe a little less if Santorum debates Obama.

I will cheer if Gingrich debates Obama. I will record it and replay it over and over again and have the same reaction every time.

As far as the V.P. Debate with Biden, I pray that Allen West would be the one debating Slow Joe.

BTW - I purposely left out the McCain / Obama debates.
I'm still recovering from that. It was very sad watching McCain shuffling around the stage.

Wasn’t there a prominent conservative who voted against it as well? I cannot remember whom. I remember him saying on air it had no teeth and had a lot of questionable funding attached to it.

IIRC, it was also in Ohio where Romney misunderstood Kasich’s labor-reform legislation and had to walk that back, too.

I think his knee-jerk response is more telling...

Ladies and Gentlemen THIS is what the republican party thinks should be our standard bearer. He doesn’t even know what a standard is.

If the reporter called it the Blunt-Rubio amendment in the question and Romney thought it was about a Ohio state law, then Romney is either dense or lying.

I watched Palin debate Biden. To every uninformed voter, Biden destroyed Palin.

Biden cannot be defeated in a debate. He makes up lies and lives in an alternate reality. Only those who know the truth going into the debate will ever say that Biden lost a debate. The uninformed on the other hand, which is a large percentage of the population, will always say that Biden won the debate.
