I just finished reading Paul Shaffer's autobiographical "We'll Be Here For The Rest Of Our Lives" and his stories about Don Kirshner are priceless. The book is a total gas and should be called, "The Hep-cats Guide to Name-Dropping". It's a hillarous page turner with the inside skinny on everyone in show business in the last 40 years. I really enjoyed getting to know the real Paul Shaffer, a neurotic Jewish kid from Thunder Bay Canada that made good. I learned a lot, and at my age that's a feat. The Paul Shaffer we've watched on Saturday Night Live and Letterman all these years is an act and he's proud of it. I came away with a new respect and even higher admiration if that's possible. He's a classically trained, hetro soul man, a bohemian blues man, a jazz connoisseur, a pop legend, an unfalable musicologist, a closet comedian and a spiritual rock god all in one unimposing package. Who knew? His Kirshner, Spector and Sammy Davis, Jr. impersanations are the best. I found the book in the bargin bin at Big Lots for $3.00 and so far it's the best read of the year.
