Marc Andreessen Switches to the Right
NBC Bay Area ^ | Friday, Mar 2, 2012 | Sajid Farooq

Facebook funder and Netscape co-founder says he is putting his money behind Mitt Romney.

From Google to Facebook to Apple, the Silicon Valley has a long reputation for leaning left.

But one man behind the scenes of several of the valley's most successful companies is tilting the other way.

Netscape founder and tech entrepreneur Marc Andreessen said he is putting his financial support behind Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in an interview with CNBC.

"I turned 40 last year and so I figured it was time to make the switch," the Andreessen-Horowitz co-founder said.

He said he previously supported Bill Clinton and Al Gore in their presidential bids but he is making the switch now because he thinks Romney understands the business world -- minus China -- better than President Barack Obama.

Andreessen said he has given $100,000 to the Romney campaign via Super PAC.

Andreeson is the original inventor of Mosaic and the basic functionality of HTTP/HTML.

Romney is the left’s default candidate if BoBo crashes and burns in November.

Not true, most young people are liberal because they are easily manipulatable, and the the reason why they are liberal is because they spend 13+ years in our liberal eduation system, if they do not have parents with a strong faith in Jesus, they will bend with “the shifting winds of doctrine” it’s simple..

I assume he had to walk way to the left first.

Before you guys start trashing this guy, you can pretty much thank him for this forum. I was at Illinois with Andreeson when he created Mosaic and ultimately Netscape which ultimately led to a commercialization of the internet.

I have spoken with him many times at school and out on the speaking circuit and he’s an extremely intelligent man. Not everyone sees the world the way conservatives do and they don’t spend the entirety of their existence immersed in politics. This is a smart, well-respected guy who through experience is starting to see the liberal ideology is chronically flawed and moving right. That is a good sign.

Good luck to the brave Mr. Andreesen and the companies he’s associated with. Let’s hope they fare better than previous liberal apostates who refused to bow down sufficiently to Democratic presidents.

For example, in 2000, Bill Clinton’s Justice Department filed a lawsuit against Microsoft, which was soon thrown out of court. The lack of any legal wrongdoing on Microsoft’s part was inconsequential to the Clinton administration, whose interest was solely in punishing a company that did not comply as enthusiastically with its extortionate demands for support as its high-tech rivals.

Unfortunately, the filing of this bogus lawsuit touched off the bursting of the dot.com bubble, from which Silicon Valley has never fully recovered. Let’s hope the Obama mafioso are not as vengeful as Clinton’s were.

The young used to vote pretty conservative in America.

In 1968 the Democrats got 47%, in 1972 46%, 1976 51%, 1980 44%,1984 40%, 1988 47%, and then in 1992 it all went to heck.

LOL! That is the first time I’ve seen this screen cap. It’s hilarious and it’s so true. I can’t believe it showed up on FOX. It must be a photoshop.

I can’t stop laughing. ROFL!

Makes sense. Not much difference between Romney, Clinton and Gore.

Me, myself and I.

BTW, nothing to do with envy, I just despise elitism/snobbery and Anti-Americanism.

Who appointed YOUR opinion as right??

Typical empty-headed Silicon Valley nitwit. Thinks Romney is “a switch to the right.”

He might be a little bit to the right of Bill Clinton, but he's hardly conservative.

Nope.

I snapped a photo of it off the bedroom TV that day.

It’s real and boy, have I ever gotten some mileage out of it.
