Bragging about owning American cars is a standard campaign statement in Michigan.
When John Engler ran for governor here, there was a lot of talk about Jim Blanchard overusing a state owned helicopter to get around. Engler made the stupid statement that if elected governor that he would drive his Oldsmobile to Mackinaw Island. The media made a lot of noise about it but it didn’t hurt Engler a bit.
Has he made it yet? LOL!
Off topic, I hear there is an uncanny amount of vehicles on the island with Hawaii license plates too. ~snort
