Effectively, the synfuel acts as a battery for the solar power generated and allows that solar energy to be used more efficiently than, say, solar panels.
This may turn out to be a pig in a poke. Or it may turn out to be a very interesting and maybe economic approach to using solar for actual reliable, dense power sources.
