This is why I believe Bush went wrong. He actually believed these people had human qualities to them. We should have never tried to build democracies in Afghanistan or Iraq. After we pushed the Talaban out of the country, we should have let the various warlords, being on our payroll, to rule their sections of the country in what ever way they wanted as long as it did not conflict with our interests. Any hint of conflict with US interests should have been met with massive firepower, colateral damage be damned. In Iraq, after Saddam was overthrown we should have kept the Baathist army intact and installed another Baathist general, who played ball with us, to rule with an iron hand. All attempts at creating democracy among these people is grounded in fantasy land. Muslims have proven over and over again that they are the most backward people in the world. They have less human empathy than a New Guinea cannibal.

Indeed. The very idea of democracy, let alone a constitutional republic is anathama to Islam wherein Everything is predetermined by the will of allah ...
