New Rasmussen poll shows Santorum leading Romney 38%-34% in Michigan primary race.
Rasmussen Reports ^ | Tuesday, February 21, 2012 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 02/21/2012 1:05:05 PM PST by DestroyLiberalism

The Michigan Republican Primary is just a week away, and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum is holding on to a small lead over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in Michigan shows Santorum with 38% of the vote to Romney’s 34%. Well behind are Texas Congressman Ron Paul with 10% support and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at nine percent (9%). Only one percent (1%) prefers some other candidate in the race, while eight percent (8%) are undecided.

The margin between the top two candidates is little changed from last week when Santorum posted a 35% to 32% lead over Romney in the latter's native state. The story was drastically different three weeks ago when Romney coming off his big Florida Primary win led Santorum 38% to 17%.

When the other candidates are taken out of the equation, Santorum leads Romney 47% to 40% in a two-man race in Michigan. That’s a bit closer than Santorum’s 12-point lead last week.

This Michigan survey of 750 Likely Republican Primary Voters was conducted on February 20, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.

LOL! True, Rats are always the fist to abandon ship!

But what this ship of fools can't see is, Romeny won't drop out if he loses Michigan. Romney will stay in till the last dime drops. All this hype from some of these very loud and ignorant n00bs that are spamming these threads, claim that the goal is to take out Romney only so that Romney is history the moment he loses Michigan and Newt can stay in the race. (Is all just hyped up rhetoric.)

In reality their goal is to take Newt down first, because he is the most vulnerable and has become a non threat to the one they worship, in unrealistic hope that Romney will drop out as well.

If you think long and hard about it, Newt is a bigger obstacle to their plans that Romney is. Because they believe that without Newt in the race, Santorum would easily take it without a brokered convention.

And here again, we both know that Santorum would lose to Obama in a landslide. Because once Santorum gains control, he will get even more arrogant than he is now and make an utter fool of himself with his uncontrollable mouth.

Understand that both Newt and Santorum are not only having to fight off Willard’s lies and distortions, they also have to fight the media, most notably Faux News, who still says Willard is the frontrunner for the nomination. They repeat this on every show. This was the same tactic they used against Newt each and every time he took a sizable lead on Willard in national polls. They ignore the real leader of the race and always say it’s really Willard and forget what any poll says that does not have Willard as leading. They are attempting to demoralize voters into thinking that a vote for Santorum or Gingrich is a wasted vote and you might as well grab the vaseline and bend over because Willard will be the nominee. Hell, at one time earlier in the year Newt was leading by almost 20 points nationally and the story was ignored by Faux, who only belittles anyone that dares challenge the inevitability of a Willard nomination. In their eyes to hell with anyone unless his name is Willard Romney. Hopefully Faux News will merge with MSNBC after the election and quit pretending they are the “conservative” answer to the other networks. They are exactly like the rest. Liberal to the core. Their drooling love affair with the only liberal running for the GOP nomination proves it.

Did you feel that way about Santorum when he was polling in the single digits? Newt has come from behind twice. Many on this forum love Gingrich and yes, this election is still very fluid. We don’t want Mitt, we don’t want Rick..we want Newt!

I agree. mitt isn’t going anywhere - he can reach into his own deep pockets as he’ll get it all back.

Newt has always been the obstacle - and before that, Sarah. Mitt set up his campaign as book ends - the two will squash the conservative. With his career of running for president - he learned he can’t walk through the front door himself, so he needed some doormen. They keep him from getting mugged from the rightful candidate.

Slick rick hasn’t debated yet- they just let his self righteous self rant on in the debates. And now he’s only scratching ears to an itchy audience as they yelp - ooohh, aaahhh - that’s good! The media and mitt are waiting until they feel Newt is safely out - and then the whiner will meet his destiny.

Speaking of Sarah - they will be attacking her, again, before super Tuesday. They are so obvious and this game is so old, you almost know their next steps. Yet, the clueless remain clueless.

As one who has finally settled, between Newt and Rick, on Santorum, I like that they're both still in the fight.

The more the two conservatives debate conservatism, the stronger we get.

I don't oppose this long primary. I want Newt's voice to be heard, and I want Rick's voice to be heard.

Neither is our enemy.

Check his record - don't listen to a politician or wait until he's vetted.

Newt is the conservative! He is the FRIEND of America, he knows her inside and out. Anyone opposing him is the enemy.

It always makes me laugh when a Gingrich supporter attacks Santorum for an “uncontrollable mouth”. As if “uncontrollable mouth” wasn’t the thing that is most getting in Gingrich’s way of winning this nomination.

Gingrich not only says crazy things, he also has the problem of saying GOOD things in a way that makes it easy for his opponents to mischaracterize them.

Remember “Medicare Withering On The Vine”? In context, a rational idea, but the way he said it, pretty much sunk our ability to fix Medicare — if you believe we ever had a chance.

A cautionary tale for those who think only Santorum says things that can be mischaracterized.

“Did you feel that way about Santorum when he was polling in the single digits?”

Yes.

Go back and check my posts.

I like both Gingrich and Santorum. They are light years ahead of Romney and I want to see nearly ANYBODY run other than Romney or his clones - Christie, Jeb Bush, Mitch Daniels.

Neither is our enemy, but Romney is. The longer this drags on, the longer Romney has to get the nomination and the longer they are deflected from attacking Obama.

If it goes to a brokered convention instead of deciding the thing in April, it leaves only two months to slam Obama instead of 7 months. And only two months to get money instead of seven months. And we all here KNOW that a brokered convention will throw the nomination into the hands of the Roves, Bushes and Romney.

I want to watch the debates tonight and I hope BOTH of them slam Romney and Obama, but I’m not optimistic about that.

Anyone opposing him is the enemy.

And this is precisely why no one takes you seriously.

Perhaps if you toned down the rhetoric a bit, you'd be a better spokesperson for Newt.

As it is, you make him look bad, and that ain't good.

I understand your point, ZULU, but the flip side of that is that both Gingrich and Santorum are proclaiming conservatism, and that's good for all of us.

If it goes to a brokered convention instead of deciding the thing in April, it leaves only two months to slam Obama instead of 7 months. And only two months to get money instead of seven months. And we all here KNOW that a brokered convention will throw the nomination into the hands of the Roves, Bushes and Romney.

Frankly, I don't think there's a chance of a brokered convention. I think we'll have a clear winner before then. No real evidence for that - just a gut feeling.

I want to watch the debates tonight and I hope BOTH of them slam Romney and Obama, but I’m not optimistic about that.

Oh, I think they might, but I really, really want all four of them to slam Obama. That's the end game of these primaries, and if we don't win this one, it will be the end of America as we know it.

Sorry, but I think it's way worse to stand up before a crowd and proudly proclaim, "I'm not a visionary and I'm not a manager".

This country needs both of those qualities in a leader if we are to overcome the damage Obama has done.

Why are you saying I am a spokesperson for Newt? Keep it honest, if you are able! I'm showing the hypocrisy of mitt and rick and why, as an American, would that bother you? I'll say it again, anyone opposing the proven conservative Newt who is the visionary for America and a historian of America is the enemy. For Newt, it's about AMERICA, not him.

Save your sarcasm and non interest in THE BEST for America and then send it to self righteous slick rick - conservatives aren't interested.

In '08 it was the liberals who voted for a two bit political hungry senator with no accomplishments who smeared candidates - now I see it's the COMPROMISERS turn at being made fools of. The GOP E has them eating out of their hands.

The mantra of the GOP E is Perhaps if you toned down the rhetoric a bit. TRUTH IS NOT WANTED lest someone wake up.

you make him look bad, and that ain't good.

Clueless statement and overused talking point - the PDS crowd wore it out. They are lackeys for the GOP E and known as useful idiots for the power hungry.

It is, but a rocket scientist, Rick is not. I have sharper button knives. He does know his base - the dumb down crowd.

But at least it shows, Rick can speak the truth sometimes.

If it makes you feel better to think that, and you can't read your own words and unprovoked ad hominems, more power to you, ed.

Actually, I think this post of yours is really funny, but it kind of makes me feel sorry for you because I think you really believe yourself. (And I'm pretty sure you won't go back and read your own words and apologize for what you've done).

Next time just think about what you're saying before you actually type the words, and you'll be better off.

Until then......
