Turkey was allowed to join in 1952 because NATO needed to reinforce its southern flank. It did stop the Soviet Union easy access to the Mediterranean Sea and stop Greece from being taken over by the Communists.
This data from the new radar station would be invaluable for Israel in case of an Iranian attack. It would prepare the IDF forces to “hunker down”, give trajectory information and provide warning for the Israeli population to get into the air raid shelters.
