“As Bishop, Mitt Romney had the authority to request a Mormons federal tax returns, if he was suspicious that they were holding out on the organization.”
I am 71. I was raised a Mormon although I am not now a practicing one. Based on what I was taught, this is a total fabrication. Tithe paying in the Mormon Church is on the honor system. You don’t know what you are talking about!

Were you a Temple Mormon, a Bishop? We have those here at freerepublic.
They have stated that the Bishop does indeed have the authority to require tax returns, to grant you a Temple recommend.

(Romney is unquestionably the weakest party front-runner in contemporary political history.)

My uncle a former bishop, still practicing mormon, other mormon family and friends have all said that yes they do have the authority.
I have one friend in particular where the bishop bills them monthly for the “tithe”.

(Only difference between Romney & BH is one thinks he will be god & other one thinks he already is.)

What happens if you only donate 1%? Are you still in good standing with the mormon church?
If you're not in good standing, it's a tax and a cult.
