Top GOP Senator Says ‘If Romney Loses Michigan, We Need a New Candidate’
ABC News ^ | Feb 17, 2012 | Jonathan Karl

Posted on 02/17/2012 3:02:34 PM PST by M. Thatcher

A prominent Republican senator just told me that if Romney can’t win in Michigan, the Republican Party needs to go back to the drawing board and convince somebody new to get into the race. “If Romney cannot win Michigan, we need a new candidate,” said the senator, who has not endorsed anyone and requested anonymity. The senator believes Romney will ultimately win in Michigan but says he will publicly call for the party to find a new candidate if he does not. “We’d get killed,” the senator said if Romney manages to win the nomination after he failed to win the state in which he grew up. “He’d be too damaged,” he said. “If he can’t even win in Michigan, where his family is from, where he grew up.” What about Rick Santorum? “He’d lose 35 states,” the senator said, predicting the same fate for Newt Gingrich. It would have to be somebody else, the senator said. Who? “Jeb Bush,” the former Florida governor.

It’s not nice to simply post a photo and not identify the subject...unless it’s obvious. That one is not obvious to me.

Well, in that respect, we thought the same thing about the Romney attack ads on Newt, we were sure that they would help Newt Win Florida, and Newt had over 40% leading into it.

It's very hard to predict, and being so many leaning toward Satorum now, know so very little about him, it could go any way. I guess it also depends on how the ads are presented. (The one that ran on FOX all day, would be devastating.)

Well there you go... You can remove the democrat from the democrat party and make them a RINO but its damn hard to remove the democrat from the democrat..

All you end up with is a RINO in an Elephant costume..

Jeb was born in Hawaii. I will have his BC ready as soon as I download the latest version of PhotoShop.

Whoever this Senator is, he’s actively working for a second Obama term and all that will go with it. Maybe Santorum would lose 35 states, a candidate chosen by the Republican elite without our participation would lose all 57.

Yah we need another Bush. That’ll win...

I think you must be replying to the wrong comment. My one statement about Jeb was that he'd lose, yet your comment implies that I was suggesting Jeb as the white knight..?

RINOs have xenophobia! They fear conservatives more than liberals! They seek their own kind and are scared to the point of diarrhea to support a nonRINO.

I believe it was DeMint who made the comments. He wants a senate majority and knows it won’t happen with Santorum or Gingrich.

DeMint endorsed Romney in ‘08, don’t forget.

“this guy is obviously a RINO of the first magnitude!

NO WONDER he does not want to be identified. FLUSH THE GOP OF RINOS.”

You know, that sounds great....

Where are you going with the 30% of the party that will be left?

Unfortunately, I think he’s right on both scores. Romney is going to be mortally wounded by Michigan and Santorum will not beat FUBO. Right now (and I realize we have a long way to go to November) Santorm is not matching up as well as Romney with FUBO. Both of them are not good debaters either. I’m all for someone else but not another BOOSH!

All Senators are prominent, so it could have been anyone. Or no one.

It’s really just a liberal reporter trying to cause trouble.

And why is anyone worried about this statement? I thought they wanted to get rid of Mitt.

And Santorum and Gingrich aren’t conservatives anyway.

There is no conservative candidate in this race.

And as much as I listen to all these candidates, I have no idea which one would make the best president. So, I’ll vote for the American in the race in November. At least I’ll know that much.

And the new candidate is...NEWT GINGRICH! Everything old is NEWT again!

The truth that Newt is the most conservative and the most electable candidate shall RISE again.
