Pop quiz: Which Republican presidential candidate supported the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor?

Hint: It’s the same one who endorsed a pro-abortion-rights presidential candidate in an earlier campaign.

Give up? The answer is Rick Santorum.

Santorum was rightly known as a conservative firebrand during his 12 years in the Senate, but the 1998 confirmation vote for Sonia Sotomayor to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals was a notable exception, and so was his endorsement of Arlen Specter’s bid for the 1996 Republican presidential nomination

Not me. I like Santorum, very pro-gun. He was a great senator. I can forgive him for supporting Spector, politics is a slimy game.

I didn't know he voted for Sotomayer. I can be objective and want to know why he did it.

This has nothing to do with Romney. Are you disputing Santorums support of Spector? If you happen to be one who is supporting Santorum for his social conservatism, don’t you think it is important to know that it only goes so far? That everyone has a price and Santorum is no different. Arlen Spector devastated the Republicn party as well as this country.

No, it is a big issue to confront a so called social conservative on...he endorsed Spector twice! and on Sotomayer, even McCain voted NAY.
This was not a typical Circuit Court nomination. When Bill Clinton picked Sotomayor in June 1997, many conservatives believed her confirmation would put her in a fast track to the Supreme Court. The Wall Street Journal editorial called her a liberal judicial activist. Rush Limbaugh said Clinton was putting her on a rocket ship to the Supreme Court. A vote to confirm her to the Circuit Court, many Republicans believed, would make it hard to vote against her if she was nominated to the Supreme Court.

Republicans, led by Majority Leader Trent Lott, delayed Sotomayor’s confirmation vote for more than a year. When the vote finally happened, 29 Republicans — including most conservative stalwarts like Mitch McConnell, Phil Gramm, Jon Kyl and even John McCain — voted no.

JESSE HELMS also voted to confirm Sonia Sotomayor to the 2nd Circuit. Was he a "liberal" too? Will these goddamned MittBots in the media every stop pimping this creep??? Mittens promoted homosexual perverts indoctrinating students in Mass. schools. He handed out gay "marriage" licenses like candy even though he was not compelled to do so. He is a left-wing liberal. Santorum is a conservative. Mittens is going down, HARD. I can;t wait to vote against the despicable bastard.

President Bush personally asked Santorum to endorse Spector. What Republicans asked Newt Gingrich to endorse Dede Scozzafava?

Rush even warned on the vote for Sotomayer. It was a bad vote. Looks like Santorum compromised his principles.

Like it or not..for months Newt has been bashed, slammed attacked and not only by the media and establishment but on FR...well, brace yourself as it is now Santorum’s turn. No more free pass.

Bob Casey ran as a pro-life, pro-gun Democrat and beat Santorum in a very bad year for republicans.

Compared to Mittens, who is (a) pro-abortion; (b) anti-RKBA; and (c) pro-socialized medicine? Really?

Of course Mittens will tell you that he was only those things so he could get elected governor in Massachusetts. That actually makes it worse, because it means he has no integrity.

All of the candidates deserve a thorough vetting. Newt got his, and now it is Santorum’s turn.

There are no good candidates in this race. We’re basically handing Obama four more years.

These Mittbots went right down the list accusing every single candidate of working for Romney and here they are doing all they can to eliminate his only legitimate challenger at this point.

I have no love for Gingrich but I see he has made it clear that he’s not going to stand in the way in Michigan and Nevada. That’s an honorable thing to do.

TF, the smear machine you see is not necessarily coming solely from the Romney folks. It’s too bad the rest of Newt’s supporters aren’t as rational thinking as yourself and sensible enough to give Rick a decent shake. Her and her ping list are gleefully watching, cheering, praying that Rick is attacked and overcomed with a barage of negative ads. Think about it, they’re “Cheering” for a conservative to go down. To them it’s justifiable payback for what Newt sufferred in FL, even though Rick wasn’t responsible for the attacks. This is just freeped up beyond belief.

Rick Santorum will make a fine nominee and an excellent President.
