The U.S. and Turkish foreign ministers vowed on Monday to work toward a peaceful resolution to the Syrian crisis.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the escalating violence across Syria 'deplorable', saying that the government was using "artillery and tank fire against innocent civilians."

She said the United States is looking forward to joining the Arab League initiative for the Friends of Syria group, which will have its first meeting in Tunisia on Feb 24.
"Certainly, Minister Davutoglu and myself will play a very active role in trying to search for solutions," the top U.S. envoy said.
...
She mentioned expanded targeted sanctions and increasing outreach to opposition both inside and outside of Syria.
...
"We agreed that there should be a new humanitarian initiative to reach out to people who are suffering because of the shortage of food, medicine, everywhere in Syria," Davutoglu said.
He said he had spoken to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Sunday over a Turkish initiative that would make humanitarian access possible.
Describing the situation in Syria as "alarming," he noted that the search for a political solution dominated his meeting with Clinton. It would also be the focus of the Tunisia meeting of the Friends of Syria.
He argued that even at this moment, a political or diplomatic solution as well as humanitarian access as early as possible are realistic goals.
The Syrian government has blamed the months-long unrest in Syria on plots by terrorists and foreign-backed armed gangs, and said that more than 2,000 army and security personnel were killed during the past months.
The United Nations put the death toll in the Syrian unrest at more than 5,400.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned European Union leaders that violence from Islamic extremists could escalate if the EU rejects Turkey as a member... Turkey signed the association agreement for EU membership in 1963 and it is expected that a two-day EU summit this week will finally decide to begin formal membership talks, probably in the second half of next year... Taking Turkey's 69 million, mainly Muslim, population into the Union is widely disputed... In Germany, leader of the Christian Social Union Edmund Stoiber told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that his party in government would do what it takes to prevent Turkey from becoming a full member of the EU. There is also opposition in other countries. A majority of Danes would much rather see Ukraine as an EU member than Turkey... Turkey has rejected a request from the European Commission to recognise Cyprus ahead of this week's decision on Turkey's EU application. The Greek Cypriots, for their part, have threatened to veto Turkish EU membership. The Turks claim Greek Cypriots do not deserve recognition after they rejected a United Nations plan for the unification of Cyprus, which Turkish Cypriots supported.
This is it, I really mean it this time. :’)
The whole headline is a joke. U.S. and Turkey seek a peaceful resolution? Really? There have already been more than 5,000 citizens killed. Does any right thinking person believe there’s a peaceful solution to this? One side wants to stay in power and one wants to kick the other out of power. Where’s the common ground? It’s war. One side will win and one side will lose. That is the cold hard facts. One after one side wins is there a chance for peace.
These are Muslims mostly.
There is no peace in Islam. When they finish killing each other they will start killing anyone else around, more than likely Christians first, then Jews, then go back to killing their daughters.
I read the headline (absent the conjunction) and clicked on the thread because I was puzzled when I couldn't tell if the turkey it referred to was Obama or Hillary.
It was actually the bird pardoned at Thanksgiving who convinced the president that he could serve a role in international diplomacy.
You are correct, none of this is any of our business. if turkey and the united states stop supporting the trash crossing the border from turkey, it would be over a few days. Let the Muslims kill each other all they wish.
You’re right, and they forgot to put a “s” on the end of “seek”.
