2. A property that can exist as a magnitude or multitude.
Thus, a "shocking amount" would be a highly disturbing indeterminate, undefined sum or multitude and not necessarily "several" or even "quite a few".

I was disturbed (shocked) that ANY amount of men on a conservative forum would distrust and have so much animosity to women.
Just like I am disturbed/shocked by the statement about men and your defense of it.

And one that, as a single mom, I totally, totally agree with 100%. This happens often enough that single mothers should have learned the lesson by now that it’s not safe or prudent to leave their young children with unrelated males. But some women simply must have a man, any man, even known dangerous ones, in their life.
