Pro-Romney Group Buys $500,000 In Michigan TV Ads (Newt Targeted)
NY Times ^ | February 13, 2012 | Jeremy W. Peters

Mitt Romney is getting some heavy air support in Michigan — the state where he was born and raised — as the “super PAC” supporting him invests almost $500,000 on television ads there.

According to someone who tracks Republican media spending, Restore Our Future has committed just over $470,000 for commercials starting Tuesday and set to run through Feb. 20. That marks the group’s largest purchase yet in Michigan, where it will have spent more than $700,000 on ads by next week.

The group said Monday that it would continue for now to run an ad called “Risk” that targets Newt Gingrich using images and attacks that have by now become familiar advertising fodder. It cites the proliferation of earmarks during his tenure as House speaker and shows a shot of him sitting with Nancy Pelosi on a couch in front of the Capitol, a shot taken from a public service announcement on global warming.

Newt is the man that will end the comfort zone for the gop establishment and their cronies on Faux and other media whores that love the invites to the White House. Romney would cater to them.

Newt is the only candidate that accomplished great things as Speaker of the House. Even Santorum rode the wave to DC during the republican revolution. He has been unable to win in his own state of PA so he wants the White House? lol

Romney believes it is his turn. We know what Romney is and I pray the rest of American conservatives know too. To be honest...I am not comfortable with anyone but Newt. Have read everything I could on each candidate, watched the debates and weighed the pros and cons. If we want this nation to really turn around..Newt is our man.

Romney has a loooooooooooooooong road to go to obtain his 1,000 plus delegates. Newt may very well rise up again and you know the Charlie Daniel’s song..”The South is gonna do it again”

Two words: Eric Holder

That and SCOTUS may save my vote for someone I can't stand in November if he is the nominee (Romney). I'll just need a long shower and lots of whiskey afterward.

You’d like this:

“Rick Santorum participated in raiding the federal treasury as an earmarxist, perfectly happy to pork away on Pennsylvania’s behalf. He did not join conservatives who fought against No Child Left Behind. He did not join conservatives who fought against the prescription drug benefit.

Rick Santorum was part of the problem in Washington. He was one of the Republicans the public rejected in 2006. The voters in Pennsylvania rejected him in 2006 because of his and the Republicans’ profligate ways. Along with Tom DeLay, Rick Santorum led the K Street Project, which traded perks for lobbyists for money for the GOP funded with your tax dollars through earmarks and pork projects.

Sure, you can say 2006 was a bad year for Republicans, but in 2006 Rick Santorum fell 18 percentage points behind his Democratic rival and his defeat and terrible campaign can be linked to the loss of four Pennsylvania house seats.

That was not a defeat for Rick Santorum. It was punishment. He is a pro-life statist and I see nothing in his career since leaving Washington that shows he has changed his ways”

Heck yes! Marguerite, you do great work providing the links and sources.
Citizens Against Government Waste which is a bi partisan taxpayer watchdog site blasted Santorum as a big PORKER for his 90 MILLION dollar deal with Hillary Clinton and Lieberman over funding a study as to how watching tv affects children! 90 MILLION IN TAXPAYER MONEY! that is worse than the shrimp on the treadmill or at least very close

At the end of the day (his Congressman career) the final count is terrifying: Santorum sponsored or co-sponsored 51 bills to increase spending and failed to sponsor or co-sponsor a SINGLE spending cut bill.

Tell me again how true conservative Rick is. With him no chance of a balanced budget, tax cuts or reducing the deficit. He’s a pro-big government, pro-more spending and pro-life nanny-statist...

His supporters are social conservatives that view him as a man of God. They are not as concerned about his fiscal policies which are liberal. Our economy is dire straits.
Many of the moral issues will be decided in the SCOTUS and God help us with judges like Sonia Sotomyer (Santorum voted for her) sitting up there we are in trouble. Also, Spector is not pro LIFE but Santorum supported HIM. He supported TWO men that are for socialized medicine...Romney and Spector and a judge that is an extremist. I do not trust Santorum

America cannot afford Santorum.

Only $90 million?

“Santorum sponsored at least two Senate bills and pushed to amend a mammoth Medicare overhaul to include the extra spending (total $400 million), which would have benefited Universal Health Services, a Pennsylvania-based hospital management company with facilities in Puerto Rico. If it seems at odds with the small-government philosophy Mr. Santorum now espouses in his presidential campaign, it was in line with his legislative efforts to help businesses in his state.

Within months of leaving the Senate (in 2006), Mr. Santorum joined the board of Universal Health Services, where he collected $395,000 in director’s fees and stock options before resigning last year.”

And while you folks are so damn worried about Santorum, MITT ROMNEY raised taxes and fees and increased spending as Massachusetts governor. That's not to mention Romneycare and a gun ban.

Here is REALITY.

This thread is about Romney's PAC buying ads in Michigan. (and it looks like now that Santorum will be the target of them instead) Here, Newt is polling third or fourth. He knows this and isn't competing here. That's not an attack. He's competing elsewhere.

Three polls have Santorum leading Romney here in Michigan. Romney has a chance at losing the state where he was born and his dad was governor. Newt or Ron Paul won't beat Romney here in Michigan. Santorum has a chance to do so. If Santorum wins here, both Newt and Santorum win as it shatters Romney's number one argument. "I'm the electable one."

If you want to stop Santorum, do it in states where it's between Santorum and Newt with Romney holding the bag. Right now, I'm more worried about an actual RINO than I am two centrist candidates.

Fabulous source there and a great post!

Eric is wild and crazy like a fox in his research and opinion pieces. To see him on CNN, smooth and articulate, to the point, and always succinct is awesome, since we know how passionate he can actually get, and he is I believe extraordinarily courageous to step out as he does for or against someone, call them by name, and then run so hard with the flag on them, I just find it very interesting. He was a Perry fan unusually early for a political observer but willing to take the heat for it.

Nice post. I appreciate it.

You know, I really believe that Newt Gingrich is the BEST conservative candidate the Republicans have had since ... Ronald Reagan.

If the Republican voters fail to see that, and don’t nominate Newt as the GOP candidate for the national election, they will share the responsibility with Obama, in his second term, for the Constitution death and the Republic as we knew it.

Neither Mitt, Rick, Jeb or Sarah can avoid the catastrophe of 0’s second term. You need for that a big elephant, supremely intelligent, at the complete opposite side of the political spectrum, a ferocious debater-fighter with an implacable knowledge of all the aspects of government, a solid plan, and an iron will.

Just think at the enormous war machine Obama will have at his disposal: $1 billion cash, all the media for him, pounding relentlessly the Republican candidate 24/24 ...

WHO other than Newton can overcome such a Niagara torrent?

“Their source is “someone who knows”

Yep, unsourced. It’s expected from Romney’s campaign.

What floors me is that they are still so afraid of Newt. The ads are targeting him!

GOOD!!!
