oposed strip club to nuns: Don’t impose your religious beliefs on us
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | February 12, 2012 | Stefano Esposito

Posted on 02/13/2012 4:20:40 AM PST by Graybeard58

The owner of a soon-to-be-built strip club in the western suburb of Stone Park has this to say to a group of neighboring nuns who don’t like his plans: Mind your own business.

“As a legal, tax-paying citizen of this community, we ask only to be judged fairly by what we have done and not through the recent religious fervor,” Bob Itzkow, the club’s owner, said in statement released Friday. “In reference to our non-tax-paying neighbors, we ask that you treat us as we have treated you, by not trying to unduly disturb us by imposing your religious beliefs on us or others. All throughout our plans for this project, we’ve followed the letter and spirit of the law.”

The Missionary Sisters of Saint Charles Borromeo, who occupy the property next to the club, have moral objections to the project and have raised questions about whether the rules were followed properly by Stone Park officials during the 2010 approval process.

Stone Park Mayor Beniamino Mazulla has said everything was done legally, even though he’s not personally a big fan of the project.

On Friday, one of the nuns, Sister Marissonia Daltoe, responded to Itzkow’s statement this way: “To me personally, this is not a matter of imposing religious beliefs — it’s a matter of defending our moral Christian principles of the community at large.”

Daltoe said the sisters are currently “in a moment of reflection” regarding any future efforts to fight the club.

“We are thinking,” she said. “We are seeing what can be done."

You have the right to do evil, and the OBLIGATION to do good.

No free human being has an OBLIGATION to do anything...unless forced to at the point of a gun.

But for the sake of arguement, let's accept your statement.

Now...define (so that all men can agree) the words "good" and "evil".

You are, of course, free to think such a thing. You are wrong, but that’s your choice.

As with any choice, it will have consequences. I do pray that you’ll come to realize the error of the choice you have voiced.

You disbelieving does not render Jesus any less of who He was/is.

I fail to see Jesus as a ‘troublemaker’. He did nothing but good. If by calling out those in power as being corrupt rendered Him a ‘troublemaker’, then we do seem to be akin to Him here.

The difference, being, I wish to be very like Him, and one day, will be. Because I know Him. I’m no better than you, I deserve no more mercy from Him than you do. But I have accepted Him and His sacrifice for me. Prayers for you in that.

I am a believer in Him and also know that our enemy exists. You have things so backward. In Jesus, there is freedom. I am still able to make all the same choices you do. Being aware that guidance is available to help make the right choices is not ‘controlling’. A saved Christian will WANT to make the right choices and follow Christ and His example. To do otherwise is to serve the ‘boogie man’ you dismiss. On THAT road is the slavery that you decry.

I am free to hate someone that does me wrong, but I do not WANT to.

I am free to drink or take drugs, but I do not WANT to.

I am free to look at or lust after women besides my wife, but I do not WANT to.

I am free to covet or envy another mans belongings, but I do not WAANT to.

I, sir, am free beyond your wildest dreams.

It is not up to me, thank God, to define either ‘good’ or ‘evil’.

The defining has already been done, by God. His book, His Word, clearly, in simple english defines and gives examples of good and evil. It would be easy for all men to read, understand and agree. Sadly, this reading is not done.

‘Good’ and ‘Evil’ do not change. They are not ‘living’ concepts. There are not ‘gray’ areas.

You wish to have the definitions? Read Gods love letter to us. You may know it as the Holy Bible.

I actually respect that. And I'm happy your faith gives you so much comfort. But to me it's all just silly and mostly harmless superstition.

FRiend, one of us is 100% wrong.

Harmless superstition? Well, I can tell you, if nothing else, the Bible is a valid, firmly moral bedrock to base a lifes decisions and a countrys laws on. You can show me nothing that would invalidate the morality and goodness of Gods Word. In this, I know I am 100% right.

And Jesus, and His necessary sacrifice, is an all important part of that.

Since you reject the Creator, just what is your belief system? What gives you a basis for right and wrong? Where do our rights, as humans and Americans come from? What is your ultimte state when the body you currently inhabit dies?

Prayers for you FRiend,

Well, you certainly are entitled to your opinion; but I can pretty much guarantee you that other societies around the world may disagree with you....some vehemently....and some strongly enough to kill you for your stance (or lack thereof) on "good" and "evil".

It's called war...and has been going on for centuries.

You've offered no universal solution at all.

It's why we have this "mini" conflict between nuns and strip joint owners. Different belief sets and no willingness to see the other's "point of view".

Wait till the strip joint catches on....the owner will probably want the nuns to move because they're "ruining the neighborhood"!!!

“I know I am 100% right.”

You say that with such conviction. As I can say with 100% certainty you are deluded. So we will have to agree to disagree.

In TN it’s illegal for a strip club or sex venue to be near a school. Most Catholic churches and convents have schools.

I doubt a law like that exist in Illinois.

Anti-Catholicism? You mean Sr. Keahan is anti-Catholic.

1) United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) have publicly rejected Sister Carol Keehan, President of the US Catholic Health Association for her role in the creation of Obamacare.

2) …The country’s Catholic bishops have not yet responded to the White House’s statement. However, both Planned Parenthood and the Catholic Health Association (CHA) have expressed satisfaction with the new plan.

3) Sr. Keehan is worth $962,467 to them in total salary and benefits, according to the Schedule J (Form 990) 2010 document sent to me by CHA.

4) Sister Keehan—who had become an ally of the White House with her stalwart support for the Obama health-care program even after the US bishops turned against it—apparently consulted with officials of the Obama administration before the “compromise” was announced. Her public statement in support of the revised plan was available even before President Obama announced it.

>>Anti-Catholicism? You mean Sr. Keahan is anti-Catholic.<<

Nooooo. The word Y-O-U-R is the possessive of YOU. YOUR Anti-Catholicism is showing.

Here is my post at 27.

“Your anti-Catholicism is showing.

Blame the nun. All of congress and BO are just dupes in the game.

sheesh.”

That means that bringing up another nun on a thread that has nothing to do with her, shows where YOUR mind is at.

People who do that make me laugh!

You still don’t get it. Today’s nuns are not what they were 20 years ago. This new breed are anti-Catholic in their hard left support of abortion, contraception, gay marriage, and other social issues that are contrary to church orthodoxy.

1) The Leadership Conference of Women Religious’ (LCWR) support for the U.S. health care bill passed in March was a topic in lengthy discussions between LCWR officials and Vatican leaders, who also discussed the doctrinal investigation of the group. In meetings with Vatican officials last April, LCWR officials answered several questions about the group’s support for the legislation despite the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) opposition to the bill on the grounds it lacked strict restrictions on federal funding for abortions.

2) Liberal Nuns Speak Out Against Vatican Investigations...

“Sister Maureen understands why her listeners, mostly Catholic nuns and religious women, feel the need to sound off. They’ve been frustrated, even angry, ever since the Vatican ordered two sweeping investigations into the religious views and lifestyles of American nuns.”

http://www.tldm.org/News15/LiberalNunsSpeakOutOnVaticanInvestigations.htm

It is anti-Catholic to support people like this who actively undermine our religion.

3) The White House in bed with the Magisterium of Nuns
by Fr. John Zuhlsdorf

“Because they key figures are women religious, such as Sr. Carol Keehan of the Catholic Health Association – who gave cover to catholics in Congress to vote for Obamacare and Sr. McBride in Phoenix who approved a direct abortion at a catholic hospital, and a coven of other women religious who have set themselves against Catholic doctrine concerning the exclusive ordination of men, contraception, homosexuality, etc.”

5) The leader of Planned Parenthood thanks the liberal nuns

“Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards has praised the Catholic religious sisters who endorsed the Senate health care bill, claiming they deserve gratitude for making “a critical demonstration of support” for a bill that significantly increased coverage of “reproductive health care.””

>>You still don’t get it<<

Nooooo, you still don’t get it.
Just because there is “nun” in the title of a thread, doesn’t mean that it’s the nun you want to rant about. Fact, these are not the nuns you’re looking for.

For heaven’s sake, focus.
