Gingrich Floats Possibility of ‘Open Convention’

Declaring that he is in the race for the long haul, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich floated the possibility Tuesday night that Republicans may have the first “open convention” since 1940.

“I’m certainly in it all the way to the convention. We’ll see what happens,” Gingrich told CNN. “At the rate we’re going, you could have the first open convention since 1940 which would give you something to cover that you would just love.”

In the 1940 Republican National Convention — the first televised contest — Wendell Willkie of Indiana was nominated for president on the sixth ballot in Philadelphia, according to various reference sources...

Gingrich predicted that Romney will not do as well as he did in 2008 in those states. Missouri has no delegates at stake in its primary.

“I think the big story coming out tonight is it’s very hard for the elite media to portray Gov. Romney as the inevitable nominee after tonight’s over...,”

Gingrich said that he has been focusing on winning the battleground state of Ohio during the March 6 Super Tuesday battle, when voters in 10 states head to the polls.

“We, I think, have a very real chance of winning Ohio so it’s very exciting to be here,” said Gingrich, who is also focusing on Arizona and Michigan on Feb. 28 and Tennessee and Georgia on Super Tuesday.

“I think we’re going to do very well on Super Tuesday. We’re going to compete very intensely in Arizona and Michigan,” he said, noting that he spoke with Texas Gov. Rick Perry earlier today.

“We have a very strong operation in Texas. We have a very strong operation in Georgia. Our goal is through Super Tuesday; we then go to Alabama and Mississippi and then we go to Texas... (snip)

Yes, I am a notorious advocate of her vision for America and economic recovery plan.

It’s an outside shot, I know, but I’m incurable.

"his popularity is at an all-time load"

All-time load? is that one of things the Freud guy called a slip? Or is Perry just loaded-up with popularity in Texas?

Perry is just fine in Texas, but more than that, he is a true patriot... he will help Newt immensely, but with God endorsing Sanctimonium and calling him to run, you are right, Perry can only help Newt so much...

I think it would be someone who is not encumbered by too much political baggage. I would expect a fresher face.

It would be between the remaining candidates.
I am uncertain if Cain or Perry could reenter and become nominee, but they could certainly influence the process.

Palin would be about 100 times more of an influence at the convention than this two fellas.

PULEEZE !!!! Can’t keep our eye on the Prize???? And you’re supporting a guy who couldn’t keep his mind on which Federal Departments he would close and wanted to force little girls to take gardasil? How long have you lived in Texas. I was born here. I’ve put up with Rick Perry being on the State dole for 25 years. Thank God, Texas has a “weak” Governorship. Guv-dude is dumb as a coal bucket.

Both need to stay in if either Newt or Rick is to win. The realities of proportional delegate assignments are in the minds of Rick’s and Newt’s team - this is why they “talked” a few days ago. If you want Newt to win then you NEED Rick to stay in.

Perry’s so “unpopular” in Texas that he got two standing ovations last night in his first public appearance since leaving the Presidential race !

Texas is still doing just fine under Perrys guideance.
Much better than Ozero or Mitts Mass.

I got no problems with his office.

Ryan or Rubio are prima facie possibilities- Ryan showed backbone; Rubio could face NBC issues. De Mint was an early favorite at FR. Daniels of Indiana has good chops.

Palin has more voltage, IMHO. She can light a convention up and take it to the opposition in down-home terms.

Rick Perry will NOT help Newt in Texas. After his “embarrassing”, and short, run for Prez this year, his popularity is at an all-time load. Newt will want to distance himself from Perry when he comes down here to Texas.

Do not know where you are coming from. Rick Perry was the only true Conservative in the race.

Come on guys; both of them have convictions that they truly believe in and live by. Give it a rest. Let’s not get into who is the “holiest”; that’s uncalled for.

He has had NO vetting.

Not exactly. Here is a little of the vetting that was done in his 2006 race, which he lost by 18 points or so...

Some very very interesting stuff, I am checking out the sources before I use any of it... and so far, everything is true and accurate...

There is a letter-to-the-editor from a nun in Pennsylvania, who slapped Sanctimonium around pretty good in a PA newspaper.

I was raised Catholic, and educated by nuns - this is not a good thing, to piss off the nuns..

Nothing more may be needed than what's here, if it worked once, it could work again:

There are two still running that will definately not get the nomination and two that actually may. Betin the first two will be Rick and Ron, neither of which would stand a chance against the nobama machine.

I agree, but the MSM has done such a thorough and continuous job of driving up her negatives.

Where was he? At his family reunion? Anyone can get a standing ovation from his supporters at a fund raiser.
