Green Bay let the Broncos score a touchdown in the Super Bowl in order to save time. Didn't work out though. Ok. So in hindsight the Packers defense was told to let the Broncos score the game winning touchdown in hopes that their offense would make it up for them, but they didn't.
Obviously it can work, but it seems to be as perverse as letting Obama win in order to teach America how bad socialism is.

It is just a desperate strategy with very low odds of working, but the alternative is worse. When Green Bay did it, the Broncos had a first down within the Packer's two yard line with 1:45 left. All a heroic goal line stand would do is run out the clock and Denver would win on a last second field goal, and Green Bay would have no chance to score. So they let the Broncos score to save the 1:45 and tried to tie it up again in one quick drive. They couldn't, but at least they had the ball and a chance.
