We used to have 1,000+ posts on this thread. Those were the days! We had good, freindly, intelligent debate then, too.

Now look at it. Half our better posters are gone. Even you are taking off for a while...

From on high, the intelligent discussion has turned into FUBO, FUNR, FU this, FU that....

I really miss the old days. And Phsstpok!

The problem is, if we are not motivated to vote for Romney you can bet that no one else is motivated either. The GOP miscalculates the public dislike of Obama. The public believe the media. The public is brainwashed by entertainment. The comedians arent making fun of Obama. The joke’s on us. Always.

So who will vote for Romney? Who are his followers? Who does he stand for? What ideals does he fight for? The guy can’t even carry a tune (which is very important to the media.) The GOP is in a pickle. They refuse to turn over the steering wheel to someone with big ideas, love for this country, and a dedication to the freedom of the individual. I honestly don’t know why Romney even wants to be president. What’s in it for him? What’s in it for us? When Romney is president he will ... what?

I do understand that Republican!=Conservative, but how much has this been our own fault?

The TEA party only went half way; people got fed up and protested, which was good, but went home after that. Even the various bodies leading the TEA party said it wasn't pro-Republican or democrat, but rather a movement of the people.

That was a mistake. We need to retake the party. Pat Fish has shown us the way, and Bray and his group tried (keep going, Bray!). We need to double down on the Republicans, not leave them.

To that end I have just joined my local Chamber of Commerce. It's full of get-along and some conservative Republicans, but I'm talking a very conservative message, and how this is GOOD for business. We all neeed to do more than post to each other. We need to be out there!

The easiest thing to do now is leave the Republicans.

The harder work is taking back the party.

I'm sure no one wants to do the hard work, but the choices are terrible! I'm sure the Marines hoped the Japs would just give up on Iwo Jima, too. It's a fight, if we have the stomach for it.

Maybe Newt will be a good punching bag for Romney to practice on as he prepares for the championship. Gingrich complains about being outspent. How long has he been in politics?

“The harder work is taking back the party.”

I think the problem is ... too many of us have realized the party has never been conservative. The party is not and never was Reagan. Reagan was one man. They tolerated him only because they got to be in control. They have no desire to go back there. They are on board with Obama’s plans as long as they get to be driving the bus.

Everything is image. Look at these Hollywood types who have 5 marriages, take drugs and say mindless things. People still pay lots of money to see them in the movies.
Politics is a little like Hollywood.

The motivator will be Obama negatives and the liberal MSM has worked 24 hours a day to cover up his negatives. If they report the truth, we would not be in such a mess.

You will not recognize this country in 2016 unless Republicans control the Senate and Congress.

Romney’s followers are people who hate Obama more than him.

He would continue the disastrous dictatorship of the EPA which has successfully hog tied business for years.

He would continue to refuse to let us use our own resources (pipeline, anyone?) and make us even more dependent on people who hate us.

Romney might be a dirty rotten scoundrel but he would not do any of those things.

any? He would do all of those things. Look into his record. Mitt is a rabid for the AGW scam as Gore. Mitt while governor pushed "clean energy."

Mitt by his deliberate inaction would do nothing to reign in the EPA.

It's amazing to me that after carefully looking at Mitts record, after going to his web site and reading the laughable 59 point plan (yes, I read it and it's nothing but pandering through lies) that anyone can honestly believe Mitt would be better than Obama.

Only a bold Conservative will be Obama. I am certain after Super Tuesday that Mitt will be much weaker and on the ropes. A knockout punch will be rightfully delivered to him by the end of March.

Wallace came on Howie Carr’s radio show almost every week until he admitted on-air that he had a man-crush on Mitt Romney. When Howie started using the sound bite as a lead-in he never came on again.

One benefit of getting on Twitter is that FReepers can share their knowledge with many more people with a simple click of the mouse which retweets info to your followers. The other benefit is that it is very easy to Tweet comments to media.

Interesting. How do you know those in the media see and read your Tweets?

Many people believe Romney is better than what we have now.
It is hard to believe Gingrich can pull this one out because of lack of funding. Obama has tons of money to attack Romney. At this point, the MSM is going to make huge profits from political ads this election. Newt Gingrich will not be able to compete. Romney is the only horse or we will have Obama.

For many Republicans, the end result of this campaign is going to be about forgiveness. Which candidate do you forgive the most? None of the 4 remaining are paragons, so which get the most forgiveness for his past errors in judgement?

I agree. It's another weak lineup of candidates.

Well, when you get a reply from the media, you know you hit a nerve. More importantly, if you get retweets, you know you are raising awareness relative to the bias of the media.

Also, if you follow certain media you will see them reply to people, even if they don't respond to your tweet. Obviously they are reading tweets, even if you don't get a reply. Granted some have assistants who monitor the Twitter accounts, but lots of them are a least spending some time actively managing their own Twitter accounts.

The more tweets and retweets you have, the great the chance your tweets will be seen by the media.

For me its always been anyone but obama, hard to argue with much of what you have said.

Given a choice between those that are running I would take Newt. If he comes up with mega bucks before Texas, its still a possibility.

Let me reply to my own post to put up a link to my Political Blog post.

You should smile, but I get hits for all the crazy sort of stuff I write on my blog that I write extemporaneously on a kitchen stool in my nightgown that most don’t read but I don’t care....

Whew....

And I get hits for my reviews of the Bachelor, my book reviews do pretty good, got a referring link from another site that described my site as “bookish”. Which I think to be a compliment.

But my political posts get hits in the thousands and I gotta smile. It’s just a lady sitting and writing stuff, a lady who ain’t going on Hardball or is going to famous and I like it that way.

I sure would like the money of fame and fortune though but anyway.....this political post I wrote one day when it all started just coming out of my fingers...

on to regularly scheduled program as I catch up on the thread. Got some funny pictures.

AB, Thanks for this thread every week. I had personal issues to deal with and had to miss posting to this thread (best one on FR IMHO) for quite some time. I've tried to post here and there over the past few weeks.

For a little thread fun, have you all seen this (from hillbuzz). The below are their paragraphs, not mine (and I don't necessarily agree with all of them, though some are right on)

Here’s a photoshop that’s making the rounds in email — the Republican presidential candidates (plus one individual I wish more than anything had run this year, you betcha) as the cast of Gilligan’s Island.

Governor Sarah Palin = Mary Ann: the All-American girl next door, never afraid to get her hands dirty, who works hard and loves the outdoors. She’s my favorite character on the show and my favorite person in conservative politics. Always leading with a servant’s heart while loving her country more than anything.

Speaker Newt Gingrich = The Skipper: Larger than life, he’s the leader of the group, the captain of the ship, with a sometimes stormy temper, and he’s always willing to beat on dummies and chase people around coconut trees when they’ve done something stupid (like how he’s promised to follow Barack Obama around relentlessly until he agrees to nine hours’ of Lincoln-Douglas debates).

Governor Rick Perry = Gilligan: The stumbling bumbler and epic disappointment.

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann = Ginger Grant: The diva with the fading career who’s down to just a handful of fans.

Ambassador Jon Huntsman = The Professor: So forgettable that most people don’t even know his name. If only he’d just talk in high school-level Mandarin some more, because people just love that and no one ever thinks it’s at all creepy. Perhaps we’ll see more of that when he revs up his third party campaign in April or May.

Willard “Mittens” Romney = Thurston Howell III: There has never in life been more perfect casting.

Luap Nor! = Luvvie Howell: I stand corrected, considering the cozying up to Mittens that this fifth dimensional imp has been doing lately (quick…somebody trick him into saying his name backwards again like Superman always does)

Rick Santorum = looks like this was actually Survivor and the poor guy got voted off the island (not that he ever really had required residency status there anyway, even though he claimed to, and just maintained an empty house next door to his mother-in-law).

Romney is the only horse or we will have Obama.

It is astounding how many just accept mitt as inevitable. Reagan in 76 lost, I believe, 8 of the first 9 primaries. There was clamoring for him to get out. It ended up that Reagan came within 60 or so vote of defeating Ford!

Mitt is by no means inevitable.

One thing is certain Mitt will lose in 2012. I am millions others will not vote for the "equal of evils."

yes the marxist will have billions to spent, he will need it. The way to defeat that is not just by equal $.

What will defeat Obama is "enough" $ combined with a candidate with a very bold contrast to Obama.

Obama and his minions are counting praying it's Mitt.

There strategy is so simple to see: Paint Mitt as Democrate-lite (which he is) and accomplish two things: suppress the Conservative base and cause the moderates looking for real positive change to say to themselves "things are bad and I will go for the liberal I know instead of the liberal I don't know" <--Yes moderates will be conditioned to rightfully view Mitt as Liberal (once the MSM gets through with him)

On the other hand a strong Conservative will provide a very bold contrast: the base will be excited and moderates will see someone truly different and speaking confidently for Liberty and reigning in government.

I consider those who would vote for Mitt because he is better than Obama to be the true fools who would betray Liberty for a little more time. The end game with Mitt is exactly the same as with Obama -- rabid Socialism.

I will not betray Liberty and vote for the "equal of evils." If in the elections past, Conservatives would have consistently NOT voted for the lesser of two evils, then today there would be no way such liberals as Mitt would even have attempted to run; they would know they would lose.

In 2012 I will gladly and confidently withhold my vote for Mitt.
