The emerging conflict between the Catholic Church and the Obama administration may have a new front: in the U.S. military itself.
The Catholic Church is fighting mad about an HHS ruling that would have them buy insurance for things they consider sinful–contraception, sterilization and abortion.
All the bishops in the country sent out a letter to be read in their parishes promising that the Church "cannot-and will not-comply with this unjust law."
Even Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who is in charge of Catholic military chaplains sent out the same letter.
But after he did, the Army's Office of the Chief of Chaplains sent out another communication forbidding Catholic priests to read the letter, in part because it seemed to encourage civil disobedience, and could be read as seditious against the Commander-in-Chief.
More than one Catholic chaplain who spoke to us off the record confirmed that many chaplains disobeyed this instruction and read the letter anyway.

The letter also tries to clarify to priests that the Archbishop's letter "concerns a moral, not a political issue."
While it is true that soldiers do not have an unlimited right to free speech or political action, the military does not want to strain relations with the Catholic Church and its chaplains who provide services to many service members of all faiths.

You do not have to be contemptuous of Obama to say that the contraception policy is both morally wrong and constitutionally illegitimate.
In fact, you don’t even have to mention Obama.
The voters are in charge of the government. The members of government work for the voters - who hire them.
It’s the voters’ responsibility that the government, who works for the people, sends the military into frivolous situations.
Period.
If we allow these enemies from within to make deep cuts into our Constitution, freedom and liberty, without our resisting and fighting them in all ways possible, we will lose this country.
We’re all aware here of the overwhelming odds facing us...we are being attacked from every direction by socialists/marxists/communists/fascists/revolutionaries/muslim sharia law sympathyzers....if I left anyone out, just throw em’ on the pile. While I am praying to the Lord for courage, strength to handle my fears, guidance to make the right decisions as to how to deal with this enemy, I AM willing to actively fight this enemy any way I can.
The Lord helps those who help themselves. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. It is up to We The People, with God’s help, to win this war against the enemies in the White House. Let us not forget soldiers of wars past who prayed for guidance as they fought and won the war. Many died so that we may be free. Their sacrifices must NOT have been for naught.

We wrestle not against flesh and blood as Scripture makes clear.
However, a lot of demonized folks deserve to be splattered into fine tiny pieces if they threaten the wrong things.
Nevertheless, I really do not see lobbying nor voting nor marching . . . doing a lot of lasting good at this stage . . . as important as such things may be.
Scripture says that when evil is in power, the good hide themselves . . . this is that sort of time.
Striking out at an elephant may make the piss ant proud in front of his cohorts . . . doesn’t do a lot of lasting good.
True patriots are potent in a list of ways and should stand up and be counted AS LED OF GOD.
Running around wasting resources in acts of poorly thought-out futility does NOT help the Republic nor the Christian church much at all.

I don’t have a problem with that.
I don’t even have a problem with the contents of the letter in question, particularly since I have not seen a link that lets me read the whole thing and therefore develop an opinion of it.
I might not have a problem with violating the UCMJ, under some circumstances.
I do have a problem with the “Full Title” as it heads the article and was repeated in post 1. It’s misleading at the very least.
Remember our Fore Fathers and look to what history has taught us...Give Us Liberty Or Give Us Death.
My post at 33 or 34 contains an excerpt from this article that allows little doubt that the chief of chaplains did write such a letter. Now, the chief of chaplains is himself a Roman Catholic. It is possible according to the RC system that his position as ranking Roman Catholic permits him to speak in religious terms to his fellow priests. I don’t know.
However, if, as the Chief of Chaplains, he instructed all the other priests not to read the letter, then that truly is the “military” telling chaplains what they can and can’t say about this policy of the Obama admin.
My doubt that this instruction from the chief would have been religious is that in religious circles his superior is clearly the military archdiocese and they sent the letter to all the priests. I doubt he has authority to countermand his superior.
But, I’m just assuming. My assumptions, though, are based on a career as a military chaplain.
True. But that's not the same as “The Military Is Now Telling Catholic Chaplains What They Can And Can't Say About The Obama Administration.”
The “now” indicates something new and it's not new. The military has been telling commissioned officers that they can't use “contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, etc.” for a long time and not just for the Obama Administration.
And the “Catholic Chaplains” implies that they are the only ones being told, which is also not true.
I quoted the UCMJ in my post 33. (Though I didn't mention that generic offense regarding "contrary to good order and discipline" if it's still there.)

The part I’m focusing on, Kris, is the instruction from the chief to priests NOT to read a letter to the various military parishes.
THAT is government obstruction of religion. It is the government saying that the Pope and his subordinates are not in charge of the Catholic Church, and that is to include the Catholic Church that meets within the confines of the US military.
So, yes, this is extremely new. I’ve never heard of such a thing before.
