We had a discussion of civics at the dinner table this past Monday night. My 5th grader knew:
- The number of House members
- The number of people on the Supreme Court
- How often POTUS/Senators/House Reps are elected
- Identified POTUS, VPOTUS, SOS, Governor, CT Senators
- All four GOP POTUS candidates
- Basic differences between a democrat and a republican
- Could name who was POTUS when each of his siblings were born
- knew the names of the people on all US paper currency (except the $10 bill)
- knew how a bill was passed in the Federal government

I was rather impressed.

Since you didn’t specify, I am assuming he/she is not home schooled. Does he/she attend private or public school?

Either way, thank you for the glimmer of hope.

Give us strength Lord, and guide our course.

Aa am I. Kudos to you and your daughter.

Likewise, my daughters are also well versed in civics, but they went to Catholic school, rather than PUBIC (not PUBLIC) school. (We are Lutheran). It was the best $80k I ever spent.

I was rather impressed.

Did he learn it at school? Or from you?
