In the calculus of cross-border human smuggling, Maria Lopez-Diaz allegedly concluded that black instead of brown equals green.

The 60-year-old Compton, Calif., woman, prosecutors say, tried to cash in on racial profiling by operating a human smuggling ring that hired mostly African-American drivers who didn't speak a word of Spanish to ferry small groups of immigrants from Mexico to Los Angeles.

As a legal immigrant, I tend to get furious at stories of ilegals entering the country... but this time I had to laugh. What a business woman! Using the system to make money! I don't know how many are "several dozen", but 5 dozen immigrants at $4000 a person comes out to $240,000! A month!

I know a Swedish guy who entered the US illegally in the 80s. He used the same method, Mexican border with black driver.

The agents grilled the black guy thoroughly, but paid no attention to the Swede. It must have been the Afro or something.
