In July 1996, Mitt Romney helped locate the missing teenage daughter of a partner at Bain Capital.

"In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared," the story reads. "She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter. Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could – prostitutes, drug addicts – anyone.

"That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day. Romney’s former partner credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, ‘It was the most amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.’

He’s not my candidate—way too liberal and I was totally disillusioned with him when he was guv and I was in MA—but this is a worthy story. It shows him with the right priorities, taking heroic leadership and initiating action.

No, you don’t vote for him for president because of it, but credit given where it’s due.

right priorities

Well, that's not something I would attach to abortion and homosexual agendas.

Ross Perot rescued a bunch of hostages.
How’d he work out for the Republican party?

Sorry, but Mitt Romney is still just a lying small politician with a lot of money.

He still supports the individual insurance mandate.

He still supports his RomneyCare with it’s $50 abortions.

He still refuses to back re-instating DADT.

In short, he is still the same crappy liberal GOP-E candidate he was yesterday.

He is still lying his fool head off.

Not interested.

This is pure, shameless PR FLACK. I give Willard NO credit because of this, or anything else. None. Zip. Nada.

If I recall correctly, Ross Perot never ran as a Republican.
He started his own party.

I am not enjoying the meanness around FR. Romney seems be a good man, bright, able to run things, decent character. I don’t know why he’s a republican but he’s a good person and strong candidate. My liberal friends and relatives seem to like him. They voted for Obama last time.

Get back to me when Mitt quits lying.

Get back to me when he purposely lies about other candidates, even when he knows it is not true.

Then, and only then, you might have a point. In short, get back to me when Mitt has actually repented of his ongoing sinful behavior.

He ran as an Independent.

Hmmm that’s what Romney ran as in Massachusetts isn’t it?

He was worried that his partner could lose a very important tax deduction.

True story of a selfless man of action. Contrast Romney’s determined search with the actions of another Mass senator, one Teddy Kennedy, who drove Mary Jo Kopechne off a bridge as a drunken driver and then left her to drown while he swam away to save his own sorry political a$$.

If he decided it was in the best interests of Bain to do this, he was within his rights to do it

I'm guessing you're not familiar with corporate law and the rights of officers. He wasn't within his rights to do this - if this PR email is remotely a description of what he did.

And what does it have to do with anything that the girl was related to a partner?

That she was a daughter of a partner in Bain? Probably a lot. But I suspect the fact that this girl was the daughter of a General Authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had everything to do with Romney's actions. Don't you?

Hum? If you do a simple search, there are dozens of stories about this issue. This particular one is greatly enhanced.
It was a fine thing to orchestrate, there was no reason to enhance the event.

Yes, some loser establishment Republicans have come out to unleash vitriol against Newt. But there is a difference between Newt and Romney. Newt found Christ, and has repented and been redeemed. Willard is still the same loathsome snake he’s always been. It’s all right there in the open-—its in his words, his voice, his face, his eyes.

And he still can’t stop lying and flopping.

I am familiar with corporate law.

And if I could get the hours of my life back that I spent on silly CEO-mandated company functions, seminars, “leadership training”, and “team building” over the years I would have many fewer grey hairs.

Management is infatuated with this sort of thing; what Romney did is no more of an imposition on his crew, and way more interesting/useful than what goes on every day.

As for the Mormon angle- what of it ? Its his social circle, they are his people. You have your people, I have my people. If one of them has a problem it is more directly my problem than the troubles of some stranger.

Also Huntsman now owns Bain Capital.

No. I don't think so. Huntsman, Jr.'s (the ex-Presidental candidate) father is a name partner in Huntsman Gay Global Capital. Gay is Robert Gay, LDS General Authority (an Area Seventy and former Mission President over part of Africa) and former Bain Capital founder.

And Bain just bought a $600 million stake in The Huntsman Corporation. And there are more links.

But neither Huntsman (Sr. or Jr.) owns Bain Capital.

Anybody know something I'm missing?

I have no need to “do a simple search.” I have known of Romney’s successful rescue efforts for years. Many don’t know the story, though, so posting this account is an appropriate way to educate the public.

My point is that there was no need to enhance the event, which is what this particular story does.
It was a generous effort, there should have been no enhancement.
